Evening ladies and gents.
I bought my fury back in November with the idea of it being my weekend toy, and eventually used on some track days.
I was chatting to a mate recently and they suggested doing some auto solos. I've done a bit of research and if I'm correct it is very similar to auto test, except there is no change of direction I.e. the reversing bits. Is this correct?
Does anybody do it, that could give me some info? It looks like a great way to learn the car, with loads of run off and a bit of friendly competition!
I live near southampton and have found that south sea car club organise them, is there anybody else local that you know of?

I have thought of hill climbing, unfortunately funds are a bit tight, so don't really have the money to do the inital outlay of suit, helmet etc. Plus not sure the car would meet MSA standards atm.
however it is something i would like to give a go at some point.

I marshaled at an autosolo and it looked like a lot of fun.
Good value as you don't need all of the expensive equipment and the tight course seamed to level the performance of a number of cars a bit.
Also had a very nice relaxed atmosphere and seamed to be based around being fun and social rather than overly serious, even seam to remember passengers were allowed.
I'm very tempted to do a couple this year if I get time.

Also a good deal more open than an autotest, no handbrake turns required and so on. Also, the event is structured so the competitors are split into groups and while one group is competing another group is marshalling the course, which solves one of the big problems in club motorsport - finding people to marshal (most clubs run it this way at least, this is what we intended when we ran the very first one).Come up to Castle Combe this Saturday and you can see one happening. We've got a full entry, full reserve list and have had to turn people away on top of that.
We run these over on the Isle of Wight, we have a few mainlanders come over for the events too so might be an option for you.

As mentioned, they are more mini-sprint format with no parking, reversing or stopping other than in the finish box. Nothing other than a valid RTA license and a helmet needed to take part.

Thank you for the invitation gents. Need to sort a poorly saab on saturday morning, what time does the event go on till, would be good to see one in full swing.
Kozy when I start I will certainly consider that thank you.
Iooking at the rules I would have to use different tyres because currently use ao48s for the road. But have a spare set of mini lights with some hideous woosung tyres in I could use.
Is there anything people tend to do to their cars specifically to make them more competitive?
Am I also correct in thinking my car would go in the category e rankings?

Events up here tend to run from 9am to around 4pm. The only thing people seem to do is play with tyre pressures to control understeer on the tight turns, harder at the back and softer at the front. Kozy when I start I will certainly consider that thank you.
