Watch some of your matches back, You'll soon notice patterns as to why you keep dying!. For me it was:

- Sprinting every god damn place like im linford bloody christy.
- Circling the entire bloody map like some of kind sex pest circling a strip club car park.
- Getting stuck into firefights i had no hope in hell of winning.
- Aiming down the barrel for every bloody shot, Even close range

Changed my playing style and i now average a 2:1 atleast Kbiggrin ratio (Although my profile ratio is still piss poor from a few prestiges of headless-chickening - and i do still have some bad games... Lots of bad games if i play with the PH lads for some reason!)

Advise that worked for me:

- Sprint when crossing open areas, Never towards a corner and never near somewhere a wild enemy is likely to appear (Once you've played the maps a fair bit you'll get used to the hot areas and the spawns and be able to anticipate someone being there)
- Stick to patrolling small areas at a time. Move on once you've killed someone. Remember, If you've killed someone once chances are they're going to come back to and try to exact some revenge. Also remember if your not using a silencer you'll pop up on the radar and every enemy in the area will move in on you - So shift it!.
- Long range firefights, If you've not hit the enemy with the first few shots YOU WILL LOSE. So run!. Don't just duck behind something for a second then pop back out again - They'll just be sitting there, Reloaded and pre-aimed at your head.
- When shooting at long range, Strafe and fire in bursts - Get your crosshair lined up then STRAFE Your gun is only accurate for the first few bullets anyway, Get them into the enemy then strafe across, Strafe back and hit them again. Use the sideways movement to re-aim the crosshair not the analogue stick!.
- Only ever reload or use a KS if your under cover. It's a scientific fact the moment you can't shoot a weapon an enemy will appear and he will shoot you. Also remember you can cancel a reload by sprinting forward for a second!.

Only way i've found to improve my aim is practice - I found that the Type95 helps (Especially on longer maps) with it only firing a 3 round burst you have to make sure your accurate! Level it up (Which probably will be frustrating!) and then stick Rapid fire on it, It's not big.. its not clever, People will whinge... but it will help!.

ETA: Take this with a pinch of salt though, I'm no COD god and i have good games and bad games...! What worked for me may not be true for you!

What gun/attachments/perks do you usaully use?

Some tips would be to always try and be near cover. Know when to hipfire and when to aim down sight and use flashbangs to your advantage.
You want to make yourself a hard target to shoot so crouch when you can and strafe when your in head to head shoot outs (you could try changing your button layout to tactical and try drop shotting but I've never got on with it, plus I run around alot so like being able to knife quickly)
One massive tip would be to use the mini-map as much as you can. Not just to see where the enemy are when they're firing but your game should start to improve when you start taking into account where your teammates are around you. You'll know that your back is covered, or that an enemy with a silencer is around if one of your teammates dissapears from the map.
It helps to know the maps really well so you know the quickest routes.
Also if you get to learn the spawn points, by watching the mini-map and seeing where your team mates are you'll be able to predict where the enemy are going to be coming from.
If you're really into it, a headset will help. I've got loads of kills just from hearing an enemy thats around a wall or coming behind me.

Keep at it though because it comes with practice.

It's the fecking controllers!

I'm the same, but on the XBox, can't aim for toffee!

Give me a keyboard and mouse and I'd severely kick my 12 years backside!!

hehe

I made a similar point regarding BF3, but ill make it again: The respect I have for people who can 'competently' play first person shooters with PS3/Xbox controllers is up there with the respect I have for those who can solve a Rubix cube in seconds, or play a masterpiece on a piano!

I'm certainly not short of hours logged- everything from Goldeneye on the N64, Timesplitters 2 on the PS2, through the Halo series, right up to when I purchased Killzone 2 for the PS3 a couple years ago... Yet I am still absolute bobbins. I simply cannot 'get' the whole aiming with an analogue stick whilst trying to move with another!

I have persevered so as to experience some great console-only games, but my sessions always have to be cut short before a controller-screen interaction results in the necessary replacement of a 42" Plama TV...

Perhaps it's my love of the mouse/keyboard combo that prevents me from ever truly embracing the console controllers? Fortunately, with my PC now subject to 'nearly free' 6monthly hardware upgrades my console frustration is now a thing of the past...

...until another great console-only shooter comes out and I think, 'how bad can I really be?'scratchchinrotate

Rant over.

My best sugestion is join in withthe pS3 MW3 thread and tag along with some of the PH guys! I lurnt one hell of a lot from them (just dont tell them that, Norbs head is big enough as it is. lol). Also the banter that some of the guys have we keep you laughing even if you are having a ste game! smile

For quick tips, as others have said, SLOW DOWN! Its not a race so take you time and try to lurn where the enermy are likely to come form. If you are playing with decent player, try following them and see where they go and even what kit they are using.

Also get yourself on youtube and look into class setups. Try as many difrent classes as you can and dont be scared to cahnge a class if it starts to go bad. I do this quite a lot. Recently swapped the trusty UMP back to the AMAZING MP7 and im loving it at the moment!

Chris.

I played this for about 5 minutes then went back to MW2 hehe

For me it doesn't really add anything significant and I prefer the MW2 maps (and the FAMAS)

Just had a bit of session with the PPM901,extended mags and rapid fire, was effective but only at close range. My other major difficulty is identifying the opposition from a distance, even with marksman pro.

I ribbed my son for watching Fear Crads,TmarTyn and Whiteboy 7thst on Youtube but may have to stop watching porn and watch them instead.

BTW if you match against zw_or_st,teach the little bugger a lesson. If you get me,same user name, have pity.

Yeah TmarTn makes some good videos.
Your positioning on the map is so important though. I used to find that nearly all of my deaths were from being shot in the back. Keep watching that mini-map!

Thanks for that, very useful....

To the OP.

How used to the PS3 controller are you?
Have you played many FPS games in the past?

If the answers to the above questions are "not very" and "not really" then you are going to find MW3 particularly unforgiving as a noob. It is without a doubt the game where you need the best co-ordination/reactions to play at any sort of decent level online.

I would suggest BF3 MP is a far better game for people who are new to console FPS's. Slower paced and more tactical gameplay allows you to settle in a little without getting killed from all directions every 10 seconds, and it's not all about KDR's.

If you're determined to stick with MW3 then

1) Learn the maps.
2) Choose the right weapons/perks to suit your playing style.
3) Don't run around like an idiot shooting at everything that moves.
4) Learn to watch your mini-map whilst playing.
5) Learn the maps!

Not a BF3 fanboy BTW, have both games and enjoy them both equally.

How do you do that?
1. Options
2. Enable Theatre Recording
3. Play a game.
4. At the multiplayer menu, select Vault
5. Select Theatre
6. Select the game you want to view. I think it keeps your 50 most recent games.

OP - one of the biggest things is playing enough so you can anticipate where the other team will be coming from. In a gun fight, it's usually whoever see's the other person first that wins.

I'm not a total noob, level 56 but I think I could be better with the right game plan.My biggest problem by far is thinking I have to find the opposition as quickley a possible rather than waiting patientley for them to find me.
Also,I don't use different perks etc for different classes and maps. One size fits all.

They are ste.

I bought a PS3 on the day the came out. For years I'd used a mouse and keyboard. Can I work the wky controller ? What do you think. 5 or 6 years on and my PS3 is still under the TV, gathering dust and is only used to watch DVDs/Bluerays on.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 on PS2? (Bit old now)

It has a aim asist feature which is rather useful.

It is the only shooter which I can look vaguely decent at.
