My 2008 Caymans S is booked in for a service the first week in March.

New plugs, brake fluid, etc....standard service for milage i was told (25,000)

I was hoping for a coolant change also.

The service is 905.00

What will the cost be for the coolant change?? Any ideas??

Thank you

Unless there is a non Porsche Coolant in it I'd leave it as it is. Porsche coolant is for life, it's properties do not change over time, in fact it can improve. The system is sealed unless you have a leak somewhere, then that's another matter.

As 'majordad' stated dont think a coolant change is needed. However, i would advise you to take a look at the blog for one of our other members 'ChipsAndCheese': http://pistonheads.com/members/showServiceHistory....

its a good read and maybe you could use it as a basis to haggle with your OPC, i am sure you can get a better price than the one quoted by simply providing your own oil and also shopping around. Mid Sussex OPC (Peter Rowe) were very helpful and i am sure he can also put you at ease regarding your worries about a coolant change

Thanks for the replies.
I had topped up my coolant. Just arounf 1 liter last time home.
I used stuff from Halfords. After speaking my my local Porsche dealer today they tell me a coolant change is 240.00GBP

They also told me it wont need done. they will check the systme out for leaks tho when the car is in for a service

Never did learn to trust anything that is "...for life" so ended up doing a flush of the system myself. The whole process was a bit of a dog tbh and would happily leave this one to the indi/opc. :-)

No idea of the cost, but my advice is to change the coolant.

I follow a 4 to 5 year interval.

Old coolant becomes acidic and its corrosion inhibiters degrade which can lead to expensive problems.

While the block or the head won't corrode through a head gasket will be attacked by the corrosion, or one of the many surfaces that are in the radiators, heater core, and oil/water cooler.

Have to end with this bit: My 02 Boxster just passed the 250K mile mark and is on one original radiator (the other side's radiator got damaged hitting some road debris), original heater core, original oil/water heat exchanger, and original hoses, oh and original block, heads, head gaskets, etc.

The water pump failed at around 170K miles, the coolant tank at around 200K miles.

Change that coolant.

Lifetime it ain't.

Sincerely,

Rockster.

How would you know whether it would last a lifetime or not if you changed yours?

One of the authorities on the M96/M97 engine does suggest a regular coolant change every 4/5 years despite the "longlife" OE coolant but I can't remember if it's Hartech or LM Engineering.
