Been having a few plays on my relatives XBOX 360 recently and am thinking of getting Fifa 2012 for the PC (not interested in buying a seperate console just yet).

The question is - what controller should I get?

Obviously as I am using the PC presumably I could get any controller but am thinking of just buying the standard XBOX 360 shaped controller which works with the PC - and obviously has the advantage of being a standard xbox controller( I think) should i want to give it to someone else if I get bored.

Is there anything better - maybe a PS3 controller?

Wireless Xbox 360 controller won't work, you want the wired one. And the 360 controller is probably one of the best out there in the ergonomics department.

Ignore the bit about wireless not working, they seem to have changed it.

Aye just get a wireless xbox controller. You will need to make sure you pickup a wireless usb dongle that it connects to.

Mine works fine for all games.

Does the wireless xbox controller also function as a standard xbox controller?

Yes, it's like an Xbox controller, except without the wires. If you are using it sat at a PC desk I'd probably go for the wired one, it saves on batteries.

I have one. Works brilliantly. Just use your existing controllers.
