Distributor 'O' ring

Any ideas where to obtain the 'o' ring for the V6 2.9 Motorcraft distributor? It seems to be square section. Is it a generic part fitted to lots of Fords and readily obtainable (although I haven't found anything on the net so far) or is it a trip to the local dealer? Any advice appreciated.

Hi, it will be a standard part for a 2.9 Ford engine of the period. Not seen one, but probably wasn't a square section when it went in, probably just 'remoulded' itself to the shape of the section over the (many) years it has been in place. Suspect a standard o ring will do.

I tend to agree, probably started life a nice round section.

Got a spare dizzy somewhere in the shed, bit cold and dark now but I'll dig it out tomorrow and have a look at work, we have a couple of "selection box's" of O rings (usually every size except the one you want).

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I was looking for a square section o ring that doesn't exist!!

Mike. Don't worry - I have access to O ring selection boxes as well which, I think, have most sizes. When I find one I'll measure it for future reference.

Rather than mess around with "O rings" get the proper one from Ford, they are still available cost pence and a normal O ring wont do as it will be too big to get the dizzy back in the hole.

Found some non standard ones at work, very close, reckon they'd do if you're stuck or don't have a helpful Ford Main Agent close by?

I am going to try a couple of Ford dealers this week. I have been lying down in a darkened room trying to recover from fitting the new engine mounts. Thanks for looking - may need your O ring yet.

Hi Tony thinking about doing my engine mounts as i have got to
lift it a bit to get new manifold on and was thinking about putting
new ones on at the same time are they a pain to do any tips

Yes - they are a complete pain!!! Another two trips to the shrink might help me forget the experience.

I would recommend you buy the flex head ratchet ring spanner - the offside lower nut is really difficult. It also helps to have a friend - I took off the brackets from the engine on both sides but needed an extra pair of hands to get the offside one lined up.I am assuming the 2.8 is the same. I bought the 2" mounts from Rally Design. If your mounts look Ok you can put in shims to raise the engine a little.

Try taking top nut and engine bracket off first, loosen lower nut (easier with a ratchet ring as suggested)then turn the engine mounting with one of those filter chain things rather than trying to turn the nut one "click" at a time.

No gaurantees but worked for me!

I always said that if I had to replace the mounts again I would cut a hole in the footwell wall to get to the nut then just glass it over again later... I shortened the stud length and used locknuts last time. Not a nice job
