Camcorders minefield!!! Help please

Really don't know what I should be looking for or what's a good buy.

Basically we want something which is a good all rounder bit like a Connon Powershot if we use the camera Market as a comparator.

So what do we need to look for how much to spend and if anyone has good recommendations on current models that would be great.

Want to buy very soon to capture the first weeks of our new child etc as they change so much.

Stick to Canon or Sony and you can't really go wrong.

Camcorders are a bit out of fashion at the moment as most cameras have good enough video functionality now. You can spend from £130 - 450 for a new consumer level thing depending on quality and features you desire.
