Good morning, I have tickets for the gb Olympic football match at old trafford and need a hotel for 2 nights. Have looked at tripadvisor and such like but I want to be in the city centre on the same side of old trafford as guessing I will be walking back to the hotel after the match.

Willing to spend around £150/night would need car parking and preferably about 30 minute walk from old trafford and within the city.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks for reading and have a good day.

Hi,

Look up the Copthorne Hotel on tripadvisor, fits your bill perfectly, can walk to Old Trafford from there & even to the bottom of Deansgate if the weathers kind.

There is a Ramada and an Etap opposite the Copthorne that have been recently built (within site of the ground). They do have parking but it is first come first served. There is also a tram stop around the corner if you fancy nipping into town.

I'd be more inclined to check the hotels near Trafford Centre and just pay the £5 - £10 taxi ride.

If you walk to Deansgate don't go through Salford. Walk down Chester Road instead.

Alternatively just stop in city centre and get the tram to the ground.

My initial plan was to stop at malmaison and get them to arrange a car for me but was thinking might be a nightmare to get out due to crowds. Have been good ground is not in best of areas which is why I was a little concerned about the walk. Didn't realise they had a tram system will look into this.

Malmaison is a really nice hotel with a great restaurant. If you could get into the Hilton you could (at a push) walk back if you struggled for a taxi. Tram is really easy though and you can get it from either the Quays or Old Trafford cricket ground. Both are a 10 min walk to the ground from there and you'll be plenty safe.

I would add though that the Hilton has a tram stop just round the corner (although malmaison is pretty close to Piccadilly).

The Mal' is a nice hotel and I agree on the restaurant, but take at look at the Marriott Victoria & Albert, as it is also quite boutiquey (former warehouse), has a great restaurant and also its own secure on-site parking - which very few other city centre hotels including the Mal have. I have stayed here for the football a few times and walked back to the hotel from Old Trafford. Tram is also an option - get off at Manchester Central and walk down Peter St - 10 minutes.

I get dragged along to Old Trafford on a semi regular basis to see football. All games so far have been Saturday at 12:45 or 3pm and this is our plan of attack:

Arrive at Manchester Piccadilly station and walk across road to Mint Hotel, check in and get a beer or two in the bar. About two hours before kick off head towards Old Trafford using trams from Piccadilly Square or a taxi from hotel foyer. After match wander over to Salford Quays (15 mins max) and have a few beers in hotels and bars to let crowds disperse. Jump on tram to Piccadilly, go to hotel, freshen up and then out and about for beer, food etc, etc.

The same approach might work for later kick offs depending on what times the trams stop running.
