Canon external micrphone

Are these any good, I have a 550D and want to enhance the already brilliant HD video by hopefully broadening the frequecy of sound. Will it be less tinny and high pitched and perhaps pick up the lower level sounds?

Funnily enough I was looking for what's good for when I upgrade my Ny-Con. I came across this review which is obviously Canon-friendly. Any help?

Ooo - I've got just the thing for you - I'm selling a secondhand external sound card on Fleabay at the moment, but I can't advertise that fact. So I won't mention that, but......

I use a rode video mic on my d300s and have no complaints!
