Heading off to do another job in Norway for 9 months, leaving at the end of March. My 996 C4S is parked on the street, in London, i'm thinking it's going to have to go...........

Plenty of storage options in secret locations. Would that not save you having to sell?
Costs involved but shouldn't be too bad.

Not ideal for where i'm going to be. I'l get my fun out of it and sell it on before I go. Just paid to have some bits sorted on it, so I want some more miles before I leave! All joking aside, I wouldn't leave any car in storage for 9 months.

Only an idea but .....

Hi would you consider allowing someone to use it in exchange for garaging for the period ?

I have a friend that maybe able to help you out, Im thinking he would insure the car and only use sundays, maybe with a mileage agreement between you both.

He is currently looking for a 993 / 996 and this might just give him the final push he needs.

pm me if any interest.

Regards

Why on Earth not? Pump up the tyres, drain the coolant (if it's not heated, but it should be) plug in the Accumate and cover with a fleece. What's the issue? And... why did you originally ask for garage space for 9 months? confused

Rich, it wasn't really meant as a serious post, I was just thinking out loud really.

How much are you thinking of selling it for? And what's the spec?

I could rent you a spot at my place in east london, covered, protected, out of sight next to my 996.

If you dont actually want to do it i have no idea what this thread is about unless its a crafty advert.

I work overseas all the time, mostly in Europe but also in Sweden.

You have three sensible options:

1. TAKE THE THING WITH YOU! Seriously. It's a good chance to experience the Atlantic Road smile

There are all sorts of theoretical legal pitfalls with running a UK registered car in a foreign land for a long period of time, but the reality is that so long as you organise insurance and keep it road-legal in the UK, you're fine.

Google will give you a list of companies willing to provide insurance for you.

2. Put it in proper storage.

I stored an E46 M3 for two years and it cost me £100/month. In return for that it was kept in a heated, dehumidified storage facility and they drove it once a month for me and emailed me a report.

They even organised the MOT when it clicked over to three years old, and when I realised I was going to be away - and with no need of the car - for longer than I expected, they even sold it for me.

3. Sell it and buy something better / newer / whatever when you get back.

Options 1 and 3 are best if you're going to be away for a very long time (i.e. if you think you'll end up being away for years rather than the original 9 months).

Paying for long-term storage on a depreciating car is a bit of a mug's game unless you have a strong emotional attachment to that specific car.

Hey, I was just farting around on the forum while eating lunch and posted, as many people do. A bit random perhaps, but if it's taken as anything other than that the moderators of the forum should delete it. If I wanted to put up an ad for the car, i'd have done so.

Sell it and let someone else take the depreciation hit for the 9 months you won't be able to use it.

Leave it at 'Hendon Way Motors' on sale or return with a £50,000 asking price. They'll clean it, look after it and then you can get it back in nine months when no one buys it....
