Yeah, everyone is pissing around presumably because they think it might rain.

Id be pretty pissed off if I had paid to go and see it so far. Cant work out why BAR have decided to go for fastest and slowest. Maybe they just dont have a clue what its going to do!

Anyone watching the qualifying? Go slows everywhere.

More farce! That is why the Indy 500 is still the best race in the world! Don't worry Gaz, Formula Woman is after the Grand Prix!

I think each team arseing about should be fined £10m.

Definetly!

I hated watching that pre-quali session. It's like Touring Cars where they slow down to get a better grid slot for Race 2

Since tac-tics, or arsing about, are happening more in F1, maybe they should make the races longer by 50% or something to suit the balance of tac-tics and some wheel-to-wheel racing?

Whilst its stupid, its exactly what I would do if I thought it was going to rain so its hard to moan about. They need to look at the system and come up with somethnig better.

Abandon most of the rules. Qualify as before with everyone on track. Start the race with a full tank and no refuelling. Two sets of tyres, slick and wets. If it's dry start on slicks, if it starts to rain put the wets on. If it dries out, come in and put original slicks back on. First to the line wins. Easy.

I like the sound of that. Maybe even ban tyre changes too . Start on slicks and get it wrong? Oh dear...

The whole sporting and technical F1 regs need to be radically changed. Personally I don't think this proposed 2.4 litre V8 formula, making the engines last for god knows how many meetings, is a good idea. They won't have enough power.

Personally, this is what the FIA should do, with probably little regard to cost cutting but hey ho:

Technical regs, loosely based on 1988 regs, with obvious safety improvements and no fuel limit:

1.5 litre turbo engine, max 8 cylinders, overboost button, limited to use 10 times during the race. Looking at max power of 1000 - 1200bhp

Manual gearbox, three pedal layout, maximum of 6 speeds plus reverse.

NO electronic driver aids. No traction control, no active diffs, no switching of engine maps while the car is running.

Bigger front and rear wings, 2 elements each, but NO diffusers, turning vanes etc. Just a flat bottom and a minimum ride height of 55mm above the ground (difficult to police, I know).

Return of slick tyres, with FIA controlled compounds, in 1987 dimensions, i.e bloody huge.

Sporting regs, entirely my own choices:

No limit on the number of pitstops, but refuelling banned. No limit on the amount of fuel available to teams.

No limit on engine changes over a weekend (hate the current rule. Understand why its there, but hate it all the same)

Qualifying-one hour session, no limit on number of laps.

Feel free to flame this, but this is how I would like to see F1 end up. The cars would be spectacular, flame spitting, and I'd like to think these regs would encourage overtaking, by putting a bit more emphasis on mechanical grip over aero grip, and lessening the tactical element.

I've left the brake regs as they are, becuase changing brakes to steel with carbon-metallic pads would have a negligible effect on braking distances at best (Williams tested them a few years ago IIRC, and it made sod all difference).

James, you MUST be joking. The Indy 500 is in no way the best race in the world. Le Mans, Spa 24, 'Ring 24, Petit Le Mans, Sebring, etc, etc. Hell, they could barely get a full grid together this year at Indy and as for the quality, well, where does one start...
