Travel lens recommendation

I’m going to do a bit of traveling at the end of March and have turned my thoughts to my kit (and more specifically the size and weight)

I’m in the fortunate position that I can borrow most things from the Canon lens range so I’m looking to rationalise my kit and take either one or two lenses, my current core kit is a 50mm 1.4, 70-200 F4 and 10-20mm so I was planning on taking the 70-200 (and potentially an extender) and then a decent ‘walk around’ to accompany my 550D

I’ve considered the following, does anyone have any recommendations/experience?
24-70 F2.8
24-105 F4 IS
16-35 F2.8
Or even the 28-300 F3.5 – 5.6 IS as a single lens solution?

My 24-105 is my walkabout lens for travel but that said it is on full frame so wider at the wide end than on your 550d.

It is a great lens though, nice range, IS and not hugely heavy. If you've got the 10-20 for the wide end I think it would make a great addition.

For a walkaround, I think you need a minimum of 18mm on a crop body, hence something that fills the 18 - 200 range would be more than enough.

For two lenses, I would probably go for a 17-55 f2.8 and a 70-200L f4 on a crop. Good balance of quality, size, weight, and focal range on a crop.

Thank you, I'd not considered the 17-55 F2.8, as Mark mentions I need something wide on the 550d, so I'll look at this.

Sadly the only option from my selection was the 24-105 F4 IS.

Perhaps I'll try and find room for the 10-20.
