Hi all.

My parents are in the process of booking a 2 week cruise around Norway and the surrounding areas and the whole idea of it is to see the "northern lights".

Its something I have promised myself I will see before I depart this earth and I think it wouldbe an amasing experience.

Has anyone on here seen the northern lights, and is it something I need to see?

Is it worth my parents shelling out a massive amount for the chance to see them.

Thanks!

I was ready to post some wise-crack message about just going to youtube, fullscreen it and pretend you're on a boat thereby saving yourself a lot of money.

Then I watched this video:

And now I want to see them too...

We saw the northern lights in Lapland, it is special. Well worth the effort and expense.

I'm in the process of putting together my trip to see the Northern Lights later this year. I'm planning on going to Tromso, but doing other stuff to than just Light chasing because I know I'm not guaranteed to see them. It is going to cost a fair bit...

Then my mum tells me that they were seen up in North Yorkshire last week. That would have been so much cheaper to have a visit back home.

The package deals seem stupidly expensive, but flights to Tromso and a hotel for a couple of nights aren't so bad. Are you aware of any companies who run night time trips out of the town to see the northern lights while you are there? I guess there must be loads?

I came across this guy in my travels of research who I think I am going to book my trip with http://www.guide-gunnar.no/?ac_id=1&ao_name=fo...

Trip Advisor seem to be positive about him: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g190475-i23...
