Right, coming from Sheffield I want to go to London Lambeth North‎ tube station for 10:30am.

I have an option of leaving the car in Welwyn Garden city for free and a lift to the train station there.

Or I can park somewhere and get the tube in....

I will go down on the A1 or M1 is an option, am I better of going a day early and staying in Welwyn..?

These are the directions to London, listen carefully ok?

By Foot: Buy a map, find out where you are and where London is. Start walking, you might get there in a few weeks.

By Car: Drive towards London, when you see a sign saying "Drive down this road to get to London" go down that road. You will then reach London

By Train: Go to a Mainline Train Station and by a ticket for a Train that goes to London. Get on the Train and wait for a little bit. You might have to get off that Train and get on another one. Aventually you wil reach London.

By Bus: Go to a City Centre Bus Station and look at time tables for buses to London. Wait until the bus you need arrives and get on the bus. You will aventually arrive in London.

It you want to charter an airplane or helicopter the process might differ slightly but aventually you will need to use one of the above to get to where you are going.

Go with the Welwyn option.

Any closer than that driving and you'll get stuck in the wonderful traffic jams. Trains from Welwyn are 20 mins or so to Kings Cross if you get a quick one (not one that stops at every bloody stop like I normally manage...).

Other places I've parked in the past have been round the corner from Colindale tube station (near top of northern line at bottom of A1M).

[smug]Nowadays I just drive in and park at our office in Paddington and walk 100yds to Paddington station. biggrin[/smug]

It would appear that PH is lately being used as an alternative to common sense for quite a few people.

I thought your reply was both informative and entertaining. Definitely not horse st. smile

Nearly as much time as it would have taken you to look up a train timetable.

How do some people make their way through life, it makes you wonder sometimes.

And do you seriously think you have to leave a day early to get to London for 10.30?

It's easy. Just drive south and follow the god-awful stink. You'll know you're there when you ask for directions and don't understand the answer.

That's Luton you're thinking of silly, keep going for another 30 miles or so and you'll end up in Londinium.

Elstree & Borehamwood on the midland can also be used and is just off the M1. It is the furthest out station where you can use a london zone ticket. My brother and I used to park there years ago.

Ditto train from Sheffield.

2hrs 7 mins + 30 mins on tube. Its a no brainer espcially if its a weekday. M1 and A1 are crap at that time. Let the train take the strain.

this is the correct answer - the trains from Sheffers to London are of a decent standard and not too pricy if you book in advance - sometimes 1st class is cheaper than 2nd

It's cheaper still if you can get one that arrives after 10, like the 7.41 arriving at 10.05. You might be a few minutes late into Lambeth though.

Stanmore, on the Jubilee Line (that's the Silver one), is easy to get to from both the M1 and A1. Then straight to Waterloo and change onto the Bakerloo Line (that's the brown one) and on to Lambeth North, easy.

You'll need to pay for parking at Stanmore unless you can find some off street nearby.
