Lens error on Nikon Coolpix S3000

One of my office Nikon S3000's has come back from a survey damaged.

The lens has stuck in the extended position and it won't turn on or reset. If you take the battery out and replace, it switches on, the screen shown the view-finder image for a second then we get a white screen with 'Lens Error' before it shuts itself down again still with the lens extended. I'm told it hasn't been dropped!

Is this a common issue with an easy fix, or is it time to replace?

This helped me fix one of the two cameras I had (one for missis, one for daughter), both of which developed the dreaded lens error. Hope yours can be repaired.
