I think i've posted it before but many years back Performance Bike magazine were speed testing a bike with a hand held police radar at Bruntingthorpe when a pair of A-10s started to practice target runs on the bike. So out of interest the Journalists pointed the hand held radar at the A-10s to see how fast they were.

The ECM suite on the A-10s completly zonked the radar set and it took several minutes of turning off and on to get it working again.

Could have been a Dutch exchange pilot. And the Tornado F3 did carry air to air missiles - including Sidewinders.

It's still a load of old tosh though.

I think the point is they wouldn't be firing a sidewinder at a ground based radar target

Reminds me of the old joke that went (roughly)

A Royal Navy destroyer was engaged in night time exercies, when the radar operator informed the Officer Of The Watch that an unkown vessel was on a collision course with them. The OOTW radios the vessel, and the exchange went as follows:

OOTW: HMS xxx HMS xxx, calling unknown vessel bearing xx.x by xx.x. Please be aware that you are on a collision course with us. Suggest you alter heading to xx.x

Unknown Vessel: Negative HMS xxx, suggest you alter course to xx.x

OOTW: I must insist that you alter course to xx.x

Unknown vessel: Negative. I must insist that you alter course to xx.x

OOTW: Unknown vessel, be aware that we are a fully armed Type 42 destroyer, set on heading xx.x. I insist you alter course to xx.x

Unknown vessel: Be aware that we are a lighthouse... Suggest you alter course to xx.x

Is that like Chinook crews doing the same on the M3?
