A little bit of advice needed
Discussion
My nan works for a super market, and has a medical condition and was quite unwell this time last year what she got over apart from having tinitus. In the last 12 month she has had a quite a few hospital appointments to try and solve the problem. On top of that she was knocked off her bike 2 months ago, luckily nothing broken but some severe brusing what her Doc is concerned about so would like her to once again go to hospital to see a specialist. Now she went to see her supervisor about taken the time off. Their reply was that she has had lots of time off to go to hospital in work time and that she will have to take a days holiday or unpaid or re arrange the appointment what is not really possiable. Is this wright? It not like she is going to she her GP (she see him out of work hours) she is going to a hospital appointment.

because her days off are Saturday and Sunday when the specialist is unavaliable. The thing is she can't drive and I have taken her everytime and my employer understands the situation and never had a problem.
Yes, I mean offer to work Saturday or Sunday, so she can have the day off in the week.It is a fine balance (some would say tension) between the business attempting to remain competitive whilst also keeping staff motivated to help with that competition. Part of that equation is giving to staff in their time of need. If however that need seems to tip the balance, over time, then it is understandable from a manager's point of view that the need is to keep the organisation competitive. If your nan feels that this balance is not being tipped, then she should aim to speak to her boss and renegotiate. If she, in her heart, feels like it may all be one-way in her favour, then maybe she should indeed take a day's holiday. If the business was to become uncompetitive by allowing lots of staff have extra days off then she may not have a job at all! Good luck!
