Well people do have an aversion to holidaying in places that have recently overthrown their government in a revolution and are currently being ruled by a military junta. There is a new government on it's way in, but it is far from clear what will happen with a wide range of views from pro-Western to hardline Islamic wanting beaches segregated by gender and bans on alcohol. Of course that's for the future but couple that with the shark attacks in Sharm el-Sheikh and many people are looking for safer places to go.

OH was there for new year and it was very, very quiet. Think all the disturbance has put punters off. That's why you've got a good deal

Was in the south (marsa alam) in october. Fantastic place and no issues at all with the political stuff.

Been all over the country over the years and accomodation and experience vary wildly. Do your research.

yes

Not just the hotel and food, but the proximity to any of the 'resort centres' (some hotels are literally miles away...might be good or bad, but bear in mind that a LOT of stomach problems out there come from the buffets...), and also research the beach / sea life by the resort - some have great snorkeling on the doorstep, some just have sand, some just have rocks.

This was in Luxor and they were hassled quite a lot by street sellers, taxi drivers etc, probably because there are fewer tourist 'targets' for the attention. Most of the restaurants were empty, so all in all the picture's one of the locals hurting from the lack of tourists. The tour operators will certainly need to offer good deals to get the custom back.

I go to Egypt 3 times a year as the GF's parents live there. No problems at all! We didn't experience any trouble last year, and we went right in the middle of the revolution.

Some people worry far too much! biggrin
