Rock/indie/metal you can dance to
Discussion
I'm trying my hand at DJing next weekend with the opening slot at a mate's club night. I'm determined, despite the early hour, to get people onto the dance floor and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions!
I'm aiming to play a pretty eclectic set, starting with some beat-driven indie, then a few ska-punk tracks before ending it with some metal. I'm playing to a mixed crowd - it's not a dedicated rock night - so I want to keep it fairly mainstream, but I want to avoid going too cheesy.
I have a 45 minute set and I was currently thinking something along the lines of:
MGMT - Kids
Bloc Party - Banquet
Killers - Somebody Told Me
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Feeder - Just a Day
Kleptones - Deeper Sand
Less Than Jake - Gainsville Rock City
Reel Big Fish - Sell Out
Mad Caddies - Silence
GnR - Welcome to The Jungle
System of a Down - Chop Suey
Incubus - Certain Shade of Green
RATM - Killing in The Name Of
Any thoughts?

Don't end with Metal. Start with Metal, get cheesy at the end. You'd be amazed how well "Careless Whisper" would go down.

In principle I'd agree, but my set finishes at 10, so I don't think people will be warmed up to start with, whatever I play. I'd rather it got more intense as it went along.
That said, I did consider a punk cover of Barbie Girl.

He said dancing, not trying to race the earths rotational rate in whatever vehicle you're driving/riding.For me it's not about dancing or racing the earth's rotational rate. That song will always mean a Radio Le Mans race report I think.

Loads of good ideas
Will definitely be taking a few of those along!Although it is now a public event a lot of the people there are friends or friends of friends, so I'm hoping I've anticipated the demand fairly well with the pre-prepared set list.
I know a friend is going to be playing heavier metal/industrial stuff later on, so I'll leave the Combichrist to him. I am debating whether or not to chuck in some Korn, however.
