997 GT3 Gen 2 RS 3.8 - All weather tyres ?
Discussion
Like to fit some all season tyres (like the Micheline pilots) to replace my current OEM michelin cups. 997 GT3 Gen 2 can have winter tyres as alternative. But RS choices seem no choice to OEM cups. Any suggestions ? I read in Chris Harris's story that he was looking for standard tyres for his RS during the winter season as well ?

I was looking for the same earlier this month... got told about some Continentals, but i could not source any?... Only available choice was o/e Cup+ at £1400+.
Continental did some 3.8RS fitment tyres last year (Conti ForceContact track day tyres I think they were), but they were only available from a single source near the 'ring and I haven't heard of them since. The mooted N1 Corsas have still yet to show up from Pirelli. As for going to PS2s, they don't come in the sizes. In theory you should be able to mount non-RS fitment ones (235/35R19-305/30R19) though that may or may not be a warranty issue as the RS has bigger wheels and they are not recommended (for winter tyres Porsche would sell you a set of the RS Spyder style wheels for the narrower rubber. Porsche-apart have had a set of those rims on fleabay for £2500 if you wanted to stay with factory recommendations).DiscoColin said:

Eh? If you watch the Chris Harris vid thats on the other thread near here, he has put his RS into storage for the winter.Vredstein Quattrac are an excellent all season tyre BTW.
Not to take it too far off topic but that would be my biggest concern with a 4.0 RS. I'd want 2! One to actually use, another to keep in an airtight container and give to my kids.... When I eventually get married.... And have kids.
It's so precious a car I'm not ure I could enjoy it.
I plan on getting a 3.8 RS in white as a keeper forever and that'll be me; a happy man. Other cars will come and go but the RS will stay.

I have Pirelli P-Zero Corsa's on my GT3 which are/were an option on the cars from the factory. These have been great in the wet and dry on and off track. I like them because they dont compromise the grip (may be 1 or 2% off a MSP) but have good wet weather grip. Thanks everyone. The problem still remains, can't seem to source/identify a set of tyres (with more than 4mm of tread) for the GT3.2 RS using the standard rims. The fronts are ok, but the rears are different for the RS v GT3. It's so frustrating as like to drive the car regularly on road/motorways where its raining in this country. 4mmm is ridiculous for such a car. Why no customer choice on tyres ?

Is it not fair weather track car?A footnote is that if not too concerned with staying in spec (and indeed N ratings), the front sizes of the RS are available in Michelin Supersports and the normal Gen2 GT3 also runs 12" rear rims (albeit with the narrower 305/30/19 tyres - which are also available in Supersports). This would upset the balance as you'd be losing 20mm each on the rear corners so I wouldn't track it or anything like that, but for road driving in bad weather it ought to be viable...
If you really want to there is the Goodyear Eagle F1 G:2, they come in a 325 section as used on the current Z06 and I think they have more than 4mm of tread.
Only problem is that they aren't an N spec tyre and the load rating is a bit too low.
The more reasonable option is to go down to 305s as long as you aren't tracking the car.

michelin just announced (monday) additions to the pilot super sport range and 325/30/19 are now available. 245/35/19 have been available for a while already so with the rear size addition that should please all those with the 997.2RS
tyre choice is a no brainer now

No Fronts available in 245/35R19. Though a similar Eagle F1 range does, I wouldn't choose to mix personally.spareparts said:
You will note that only the right hand side N0 is available - you can't make a set. (NB - the next generation N1 will supposedly not be left/right specific for the rears like the N0. If it ever actually appears).News of availability of the (non-N rated) Supersport in 325s above is the definite solution when stocks land for anyone one of warranty. Anyone who wants N is still resolutely stuffed though - Cups still the only game in town for those.

I put them on my Gen 1 RS and they are excellent all purpose tires, much better in the wet.tyre choice is a no brainer now

t in the cold/rain, nice dry tyre though but not a patch on it's replacment the Pilot Super sport, which does work in the wet.
