ATM Engineers...

i had an interview on monday for a job with G4S cash solutions as an ATM Engineer.

got a phone call on wednesday telling them i have been successful, pending on my screening. (CRB)

My experience lies with in Telecommunications so this will be totally new to me, but all training is provided.

its also a local based job which is what i was after as all the cabling/telecoms work seems to be all over the UK.

having been unemployed since leaving the forces in sept, to say im chuffed is an understatement.

not working has been driving me absolutley nuts!

so any ATM Engineers out there with any pointers?

Hi there. Just curious how you are getting on as I have seen the posituons for ATM engineer for g4s. Have you any info on shifts etc? Iv been working nights for years and wondered the hours? Also hows the management? Sny info is much appreciated. Thanks

I used to be a Branch Manager for Securicor (and left just after the G4 merger). ATM Engineers used to get it damned easy!

When on shift, they used to sit around the traffic office drinking our coffee and bemoaning the fact they were earning money for doing nothing!

Of course, they used to get called out at weekends, had to take all the security precautions that us Cash In Transit lads and lasses used to have to do but generally the consensus was it was money for old rope.

They used to 'top up' their money by doing overtime as either part of an ATM replen crew or CIT crew. Since most CIT is now one person and not two and I think the same has happened to ATM replens, this might not be so easy.

didnt really think about the title when i posted!

just waiting on a start date now, the security clearence process has taken 2 months so far.

although they made contact and said i should be starting in the next week or two.

shift pattern is 4 nights 4 off i believe, 9-7.

Doing a course at moment actually, for refrigeration and aircon. F-Gas cat 1 and 17th edition are amongst the quals gained, so pretty decent. I've also got a PAT tester course lined up as a little addition. I'll be firing off for jobs as soon as I finish this course, although I can't start til end of May at the earliest (91day rule). Exciting but scary times!

No I appreciate that and wish you all the best with the job but it is a bit annoying how in the UK every job which is in the slightest bit technical gets described as an Engineer when its clearly not.

Thanks for the info mate. Im now at the screening stage also and been told it can take up too 3 weeks, did it take you longer? Iv gone for night shifts too, but not been told the shift patterns yet, hoping its what you with said 4 on 4 off. Hopefully screening doesnt take too long ...

3 weeks!

Im still waiting on a start date, having got the job on the 16/01/12!

Apparently its the CRB thats taking so long!

As far as i know i have never commited a crime!

Thats a long wait no doubt, hope you get the good news soon. Iv spoken to screening ppl and they said it depends on how long the referances take to get back to them. I hope im not waiting as long as you've had too, we shall see!
