Dear Sir/ Madam,

My original PS3 was returned to you under the exchange service due to the PS3 not reading BluRay discs. Having agreed to your £110 exchange service I received my current PS3 a couple of days ago. Having updated the software and reinstalled my games, the PS3 is switching itself off after approximately 30 minutes of play - after this the machine is completely dead - no lights, nothing. The machine comes back to life after the power supply is pulled from the back of the machine and replaced - red light comes back on. 30 minutes later - the PS3 switches itself off again.

The machine is in a well ventilated area, my original PS3 was located in the same place for nearly 2 years.

I called Playstation support around 8pm on 25th January 2012 with the problem to be told to try a new power cord. I managed to borrow a power cord later that evening to find out the machine was still suffering with the same problem (turning off after approximately 30min of play).

I re-called Playstation support this morning at 0915 (26th Jan), to be told this does not normally happen and that I should receive another refurbished/ remanufactured PS3 within 7 working days. I told him my frustration but all head said "I can see your problem" which does not really help the matter.

I am extremely disappointed having paid £110 to Sony Playstation for the exchange service - I could have bought a brand new PS3 with 12months warranty for another £50. The service is very poor. I will have to wait for the remanufactured PS3 to arrive, and then I will have to update the machine which degrades my broadband internet allowance.

I am not pleased at all and wish for this matter to be looked into further with action taken. I look forward to hearing from you most urgently.

Yours Sincerely,

XXXX

Thanks - just thought everyone should know before spending £110 on a supposedly working model

Ah right, I will count myself as aware.

I take it Sony will not replace the replacement?

A similar thing happened to me, except it was YLOD on both the original and the refurb. Bought a 320gb slim with extended warranty after that, never had a problem since.
