Is anyone on here obsessed with getting a really strong Salt and vinegar hit? You know, you get the odd bag that seems to have had double dosage of flavour. MMMMM!

Anyhow, my wife comes home from Tesco with a Tescos own cheapo bulk bag of crisps, amongst said bag are Salt and Vinegar chip sticks. Seriously they are sooooo strong it's amazing. If you like strong flavour then get some. Just pour a glass of water for when you have had them!

I have to admit I love exceptionally strong salt and vinegar crisps! My favourite are Squares and Discos.

My mouth is gushing. I like strong flavour on everything. I'll admit to eating the dusty remnants from the dry roast peanut bag and saving the salty crispy bits from a bag of chips 'til last.

I often find that cheap 'own brand' (i.e. Tesco's own, Happy Shopper etc) salt n vinegar 'sticks' are good for an intense fix of cheeks-sucking-inwards flavour hit.

Since being a small crisp eater, I have enjoyed putting some actual vinegar in the bag amongst ready salted crisps.

You may recoil in horror, as the crisps would surely go soggy?

They do, and are all the better for it.

Flame Grilled Steak McCoys. Every now and then you get a pack that has a layer a couple mm thick of the coating. cloud9

In my line of business, I've watched them being made a few times. Puts you off a bit.

Having said that, I've gone mad for salt & vinegar peanuts. Love them with a glass of wine to line the old tub. I have to confine it to once a week, what with the waistline and all.

Why would it put you off? Is it a particularly nasty process?

No, it's as you would imagine it in most places, a long fryer, the gear goes in raw one end, comnes out cooked at the other, flavouring is often added electrostatically - like a pressure washer lance pointed into a cement mixer affair & it's blown onto the crisps whilst electrically charged & sticks. Quite interesting stuff.

However, it's obviously not the most challenging work & you do see some bad practices, poor hygiene & dodgy shortcuts - spillages scooped up, vermin, hairy workers, the usual afflictions with food busineses.

I don't hang around these places, I just have a few customers who manufacture, but I recall once visiting a place in Medomsley Road, Consett, County Durham (for those with long memories) and watching congealed lumps of fat that would evaporate from the fryers, drop to the floor and then be thrown back in the hot oil. Not the nicest thing I've ever seen.
