Thinking of buying the Road Angel VANTAGE?

Anyone out there using one of these that could give me some feed back please.

Like the idea it tells you the limit for the road you are on etc>>>

I bought one for my mum with an eye on replacing my RA Connected. Haven't personally used it that much but seems a good piece of kit, but...it's frikin huge! I wouldn't use it in my Audi and if I tried it in the Cerb it would block off half the view out. My mum has a Disco 3 and it looks fine in there. Having said that, the display is nice and clear and obviously, due to size, easy to read. Very handy to have a road speed marked if on an unfamiliar road, even though we should really know our highway code

Only other thing I can't get on with, and now I'm being pinicity, my Connected turns itself on as soon as it detects movement, and shuts down when no movement is detected. The Vantage has to be manually turned on (and I think off...can't remember). Maybe I'm just getting lazy in my old age?

If you have an Iphone, ther is a Road angel App. £20 for a years subsription and its just the same as the units!

I had Road Angel Navigator (Satnav + speed traps) with additional plug in laser detector, then Navigator 6000 (+laser detector) then 9000 (+ laser detector)

The laser detector continuously gave false alarms so never took it seriously after a short while. The navigation was poor (and then they were outbid by TomTom for maps and discontinued SatNav manufacture anyway) and I found the units unreliable in terms of both hard & software.

ETA - the reason I stuck with them that long is they were the only manufacturer to combine Nav and Speed in a single unit, with laser detector option

2nd edit - I tried to palm the 9000 off on my wife but even she didn't want it, nor anyone in her family. This was £600 new with extras !

Its funny JD, I had the original Navigator and it never missed a beat. I got it because, certainly at the time, it was the only unit that gave directional camera warnings and a digital speedo/navigation (Cerb/TVR speedos are notoriously bad). Was going to 'upgrade' to the 6000, and latter the 7000 but didn't due to all the reported problems here on PH.

My Connected has been faultless for 3 years and mum's Vantage for 1 year. RA's reliability problems always seemed to stem from the nav side of things.

just my luck - never thought to search for RA probs. here when I was upgrading each time - like you it was the combo spec that swung it.

My RA connected has been brilliant and has probably saved my licence and thus my job and therefore my staff's jobs too. I've never used the laser detector as i've always understood these (not just RAs) are less useful. I do have a problem with charging the unit though. Replacing the mains charger, then later returning the unit to RA for their attention has still not sorted this out. However provided I always leave it charging in the car when I'm using it I can't fault it as a detector or a speedo or it's ease of use.

Mine is the same, works off the power cable but doesn't hold a charge unless charged from a socket indoors

I gave up with my road angel. False alarms, incorrect readings...

Obviously; you do

I had one a few years ago.
Had to turn off all warnings as they were too difficult to maintain.
(anyone who has drive around the M25 variable speed limit zones with one will understand)

It was good for speed accuracy though in my experience.

My Tomtom does that. It often shows the wrong speed limit. This will happen a lot as dumb councils lower more and more limits.

I have had a Road Angel Compact for 5 years. It has always worked perfectly, its small, you update it monthly by connecting to a computer.
