Sitting in a small airline lounge. Took my earphones off for 2 mins to refresh the fizzy stuff when my ears were assaulted by a wine w
ker on the other side of the room opining loudly about French wine and 'edjumacating' his younger work mate.
I'm looking at the bar stools and his head and thinking they might go well together.

A couple of years ago I was in La Tasca with my boss and a couple of clients. I am not a wine buff in any way, shape or form.
One of the clients began to talk about wine, saying he doesn't claim to be an expert but his mate owns a restaurant and he has been educated about wine. At this point, they begin looking at the wine list and spot a bottle for over £100. The client begins talking about it and how it is worth every penny and suggests we should order it. My boss said we couldn't order it as the finance director would go mad when the credit card statement came.
The client said he couldn't pay either as they have to submit all receipts and declare any entertainment expenses. They were jabbering for ages on how we could enjoy this expensive plonk without upsetting our gaffers. The client came out with a suggestion.
"I'll tell you what! You pay on your card and tell your finance director you'll stick an extra £120 on the next job you do for us!"
I had been looking at the wine list while this was being discussed:
Me: )Err...you see the cheapest wine on the list?
Boss: "Yes"
Me: "Notice this has the same name? What you are ordering is a 5 litre jug of the same crap for pissed-up slappers on hen nights!

I think wine connosaurs are todays version of train spotters all the ones I have met are self important and dull to be frank. Fair enough knowing the basics is good but when you start talking about soil types and weather patterns all I hear is loser.
I find coffee aficionados are a lot worse than wine fans. I love wine (claret in particular) and enjoy learning about the different areas and chateau in Bordeaux. I' wouldn't start sprouting off about it in company though.
