Gear dilema

I've got the change to get my hands on a used canon 17mm ts-e.

Currently have 7D, 10-20 (which is pants) , 17-55(ace) 50/1.4(good) 70-200/2.8L(great, heavy)

I had a plan to go to: 5D3 (or 5D2) , 17-40L, 24tse, 24-105, 70-300L

Now I think I will end up with a FF body , possibly a 5D2 , sometime, regardless.

But the 17tse will work very well on the 7D, and will out wide the 10-20 if shifted/stitched... (8.2mm!)

Still it has filter issues and I can get an imported one for similar money (new) and the same price as the 24tse...

bks I think he will be ages...

The filetr issue is the biggest I think.

On FF which would I rather have (both are too much for now!) prubably the 24.

The 17 would work well on both crop and ff tho...

Playing devil's advocate - what are the filter issues, and why would they override an otherwise great acquisition? Ain't nothing a filter can do that you can't get around somehow.

Well I could exposure blend more! but ND's for long exp and polarisers are out.

17tse has a bulbous front element meaning you need to hack a filter holder and the filtes need to be HUGE to work if you are goin gto shift (6x6 inches), $400usd for a polariser etc...

Just found out the 17 works well with a 1.4 tc....

Yeah, but, no, but, yeah, but.... you're not going to use a polariser on something as wide as 17mm are you - or maybe on a cropped sensor, I suppose....

And (excuse me I know so little about Canon beyond the difference between A1, AV1, AE1 and AT1 (shows my age!)) won't it take a filter at the rear for ND?
