Got the new issue of Autocar today. At startup the new M5 gives you 400bhp, press the button you get the full kahuna....507bhp.

Gotta get me one of these....

I dunno, but by pressing the button you get increased throttle response as well.

(maybe its a secret "Man only" button, for when the Wife gets hold of the keys)

Don't they already have a similar button on the E46 M3?

The car, whilst being a Mega Monster Saloon, will also be expected to be used as a commuter/tourer/occasional wife use.

You dont NEED the 500bhp all the time, nor the associated 'tetchy trigger throttle', nor the fuel guzzleing.

I had a similar thing on my GTO, i simply turned the Boost off on the Turbos when I didnt need them, saves 7-8 mpg, and made driving that much 'easier'

Maybe the Button could be renamed 'Wife mode'

400bhp is still a lot for wife mode!

The sport button on the current M3 just remaps the throttle response .

Same on the current M5 (suppose its not current anymore) sharpens throttle and firms up steering, also heard it changes the suspension but I'm not so sure about this.

I thought the same too.

Surely 300 would have been a better figure.
Sounds more like a gimmick to me.

I remember gathering around a mates old XR3i/RS Turbo thingie! about 15 years ago, after he’d had (some tuning) and a Turbo Technics switch fitted. It used to give an extra 10/15bhp – at the flick of a switch. Everyone was really wowed…!! By this.. I remember queing with my mates to have a ride in it…!!

Oh how you can laugh about things now…!
