On Saturday, my wife, son and I had a baking competition, which I lost quite spectacularly due to my crumpets being a little heavy.

We have a re-match planned for Sunday and I firmly intend to win (and in the process wipe the victory smile off my 8yr old son's face).

So, culinary wizards of PH, please help me re-establish myself with suggestions of recipes. Anything goes, but it has to be baking rather than cooking a meal.

So far, Olly has decided to go with cup cakes, covered in millions of hundreds and thousands; my wife is being very cagey about her plans, but las weekend, she went for fairy cakes that were bloody lovely (Olly's winning dish was flapjacks).

Please help me win!!!

Pillow cookies always go down well - two super easy recipes just combined and when you break into them it looks pretty cool too!

It depends whether you're going for pretty, tasty, technical or run of the mill... smile

The scoring criteria are:

1. Points out of 5 for appearance
2: Points out of 5 for taste

ETA. We have a maximum of 2 hours coking time from start to finish

Sourdough bread.

If you can find a ready-made starter somewhere whistle you might 'just' sneak in there with the timescales.

For appearance and taste, it has to be the classic French macarons - they're usually quite difficult but that's a really easy version to make!

Or stick with the English side and go for some homemade jammiedodgers? Then you can customise them to spell out "winner" :P
