Help please.

The closest description of my most recent job function (without giving the game away entirely) was that of 'retained marketing consultant'. My salary was covered by the retainer paid by the customer.

Over and above this, I generated 4 x my salary per annum in terms of additional consultancy projects. These were all revenue with no direct costs.

What's the norm? Is 4 x salary considered good, or otherwise unremarkable by professional consultancy standards?

I would expect it to vary between industries, but for me: last year I generated just under 24x salary in work, of which I operated slightly below half (the rest being done by others in the company). It is slightly skewed by being a graduate and being paid accordingly. It would be more difficult to get to the same ratio this year, I work in consultant engineering.

By 'salary' do you mean your salary only, or your cost as an employee?
