Upgrading my 300d

I've had a Canon 300d for 9 years now and fancy something a bit better. I'm fairly happy with it but am after something with a higher resolution and automatic focusing (I believe that this is called Al-Servo) for motorsport and airshow events.
I don't really know the differences between the different ranges of Canons. Was thinking of a 600d but I'm unsure.
I've currently got canon 100-400mm and 17-40mm L glass lenses so would like to get another Canon.
Any suggestions?

xxD range will be much better for motorsport due to faster framerate. They'll also balance out your lenses better than the xxxD range. If you can't stretch to a 60D brand new consider 40D, 50D or 60D secondhand.

Funnily enough I was looking at the 60d the other day but couldn't really see the difference from the 600d apart from the price.
Only got offered £60 trade in on my 300d from MPB Photographic.
Used a 600d over Christmas and quite liked it. Had some time to compare against the 7d (side by side) and the 7d is awesome, but --- just not sure I'd ever use everything it has to offer. No idea about the 60d in the middle though. Personally, I'd go for the 600d and put some money aside so you can spring for more glass at a later date.
I did sell a 300d last year on Ebay and got a respectable £150-160 - which was higher than everyone else. The key was to offer the camera complete with lens, batteries, battery charger and memory card. Incomplete kits fetch far less than a kit that someone can use straight away.
I upgraded my 450 to a 60 last year - I did ponder the 600 as there is not that much between them on the face of it see comparison. There are a few advantages to the 60 see here but it's really which one you like the feel of better, there's no bad choice to be made so I wouldn't sweat it

It's a fair bit bigger and heavier - I wouldn't worry about it at least until you see how it feels Galsia said:

When using big lenses the extra bulk of a grip (or a larger body like a 1 series) always feels better to me.More often than not batteries are not compatible for more than a couple of models in a row and grips usually change with each model since something about the design and placement of controls will more than likely vary even if the shape of the battery compartment does not.
On the other hand there are usually a few third party grips to choose from shortly after the launch of a new model and many are of quite satisfactory quality for a much lower price than a manufacturer would charge. The same is true for batteries.

It doesn't have to be, check out a Meike grip instead - I picked mine up on amazon with 2 batteries for under half the official Canon grip cost....really well made and my 60D has travelled all over the place with me seeing various temps, wet weather, taking in over 140,000 miles worth of flights in my main laptop bag and 40,000+ miles of drive-stop-shoot-drive madness all over the west coast of America and central Europe, not to mention all the bumping and bashing aroung of everyday life...Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
