Decoked the engine today (lots of pics)

Spent the morning decoking the engine on the Hillman to try and cure the run on after shutting off the engine. It was dead easy and only took about 4 hours in the end. One of those nice jobs where everything went well

Started first time after putting it back together and i took it for a good run to see how things were going, and it is running so much better i really wasn't expecting such a difference. It also starts a lot easier and most of all the dieseling has stopped. Best £20 (gasket set) i have ever spent on a car!

What is the engine for that car? I might be starting a restoration in the summer of a Humber Sceptre with the 1725cc Rootes engine and wondered if this would be the same or similar?

It is the 1500 but yes i believe they are quite similar. I think the 1725's have an aluminium head though but i may be wrong

I know of a Gazzelle 1725 for sale if you'd be interested Mr Eggs :P

Unless it stays for sale until the summer I've not got much use for it (Uni terms!).

Very easy! Access is great (but not quite as easy as the girlfriends Morris 1000 but that is just me being picky). I have yet to find a job on the car that is 'difficult'.

That's good to know! I've not seen the Sceptre but apparently it's not in good shape at all. I was my Grandad's car and I want to get it back on the road in all its glory.
