Can anyone share their experiences with delivered Veg Boxes please?
Buy most of my fruit and veg from Tesco at the moment, but i'm rarely happy with either the quality or the price- last week i spent £16 and didn't get a lot of veg for the money. Both SWMBO and I work 9-5 and live in the countrside so going to a local veg shop is impossible.
For £15 there are various veg boxes that we could try and it owuld be nice to spend less with the supermarkets and try and support local businesses- so have people found them value for money? whats the qulity like? and is the delivery actually when they say it will be? did you stop using them for some reason? other thoughts?

I used Abel and Cole http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/ for a while, they were great and allow you to give detailed instructions about where to leave the box. The veg was delicious and seasonal, portions not massive for the money but not bad.
I stopped because I started contracting so only cooked for myself every few weeks!

we used to use abel and cole, and then changed over to these http://www.riverford.co.uk/ resonable portion sizes, but we found that we were spending too much and ending up with quite a bit of left overs. The medium box wasn't enough and the large one was too much.
We usually try to get our veg from the market now, can get decent quality stuff for half the price. The boxes are cetainly a good option if you can't get to the shops much.

We used to use Riverford - I always used to enjoy the box arriving, it was a bit like Christmas morning, seeing what goodies we had got in the box that week. Often, though, we would get weeks and weeks of beetroot or kale or rhubarb or chard or swede, and while those are all things I like in moderation, it just got a bit much. Dealing with gluts is fine when it's your own produce and it's costing you peanuts, but when you're paying for it, it gets a bit irritating.
We use Riverford about once a fortnight - BUT rather than putting it in a standing order, we choose which box we want when they publish the list of contents each week. Much better than risking getting a load of stuff we don't want or box after box of the same.
Quality is good - definitely farm fresh, judging by the amount of farm I have to wash off some of it, and don't expect everything to be regularly shaped and sized.
