I really fancy a 996 in the near future but have recently had Jap cars. What are the Jap alternatives to a 996?

Skyline R34? 2 and 4 wheel drive. 4 seats. Couple of engine options.

Supra is probably too old to be a real comparison.

I don't think there really is a good equivalent. The Jap manufactures seem to opt out of that market. Small soft top, S2000, MX5. Or saloons/hatchbacks. But no real powerful sports car I can think off until the Toybaru thing just being released.

Not too similar but when i sold my boxster and was considering a 996 to replace as a 4 seater sports car i ended up with a RX8.

Depends what 996 you are wanting a comparison with, there is a big difference between an entry level 911 and say a GT3 for example.

Supra, Skyline R33 GTST/R34 GTT, RX7/8 (depends on how comfy you want to be), Mitsubishi GTO, NSX come to mind.

Maybe you should think about holding off for a while and have a look at GT-86 or BRZ not got the same power as a 996 but would still be a lot of fun!

Oddly I think an NSX of similar vintage to the 996 will be significantly more expensive.

The bottom of the 996 prices is a tad under 10k.
