GM announced prices for the C6 which are lower than the 2004 C5 - should have waited Richard!!
And of course those that want a proper Corvette, the manual box is now standard so that is another £600 or so saved.

I briefly considered the C6 but having now seen it in the flesh I need time for it to grow on me.
You will not get a same spec C6 for anywhere near what I paid for my C5. The C6 will not be available in Europe until October (according to a GM press pack I acquired at Goodwood)

In fact, some guy on Corvette Forum has made the very valid point that the dealer C5 prices are currently MUCH cheaper than the C6 (you can buy oe for $43000)plus of course there is no Z06. Reports even suggest that C5 prices are firming up as most C5 owners decide they don't like the C6. It's been a few months now and I still don't.

Agreed.
Well, I saw it at Goodwood parked up with the supercars. It was raining and the car was locked up. Managed to peer through the window and liked the alluminium style dash but felt there was still too much plastic particularly around the passenger airbag area. The car looked small by comparison with the cars around it. Didn't particularly like the opening at the front but no doubt our number plates will fill most of it. The back was ok except that the imprint of "Corvette" was in the wrong place I felt. Overall I could see a lot of C5 in the car particularly from the side.
However the big blow came when it was out on the hillclimb with the other supercars. I accept that there is a massive price difference between the Corvette and other high performance cars but it was outclassed. It looked too small, was too quiet and looked too slow.
That's my opinion but I would add that I detested the C5 when I first saw it. No doubt one day I will own one, but for now my C5 fits the bill perfectly for me.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I loved the C5 when it first appeared, but even though there are elements of the C6 that I like (the rear and lights, for example, even though I do agree that the "Corvette" text should be between the lights), but overall, it's left a sour taste in my mouth.
I doubt very much if I'll be buying one. It's interesting to see that C5 prices are starting to firm up - and also a sad thing to note that if a particular model of a car doesn't sell well the company in question will discontinue the brand.
This is a bad situation - I'm sure (based on my previous taste in Corvettes - C1, C3 and C5), the C7 will be glorious!

....or maybe Corvette will follow the "brand development" trends of other manufacturers and the product will develop into,
a) SUV (a la Porsche)
b) 4 door saloon (a la Maserati)
c) Small family hatch-back (a la BMW)
d) Cross-roader (a la Audi/Rover/Volvo)
e) Corvette "for-four" (a la Smart)
f) $500,000 Corvette SLR (a la Merc)
g) Saab 9/9 (a la Subaru)
Having revived the brand with C5 let's hope they don't go ***** it!

h) Discontinue the model altogether (a la Firebird !!)
Would they ?
This is based on US prices, but I think when you add the option package to the C6 Coupe and compare that to a 2004 Coupe with the option package, the C6's retail price actually increased by about 4K (US comparison). It's all marketing by GM to make you think the C6 actually got cheaper when it really increased in price for the optioned car (<- most will be buying it with the option package.)
BTW, I too think they took a completely wrong direction with the styling and size. I think the physical dimensions were no doubt influenced by the Cadillac XLR, unfortunately.

So far, it doesn't look good for the C6.
