Nikon D3100 wireless shutter

Morning

Does anyone know if you can get a wireless remote for a Nikon D3100? I've been told by some people you cant and can only get a wired one but when you look on Ebay there is loads for sale...
Has anyone got one for their D3100? if you have could you tell me which one it is so I can get one myself? I'm quite interested in giving this star trail photography ago.

You can use a third party one yes I am 99% certain of that.

If you want to try trails you need one with the ability to lock (or a thumb of steel and the patience of a saint), my wireless one doesn't, hence getting a mc-dc2.

Having said that I just googled to see if a mc-dc2 is 3100 compatible and came across this...

Don't Nikon produce something - I seem to remember something like an "ML-L3" for my first dSLR....

No lock option though, no good for star trails.

I like the look of that one!! but £60.00..... thats pretty expensive isnt it???

Oh - yes. i hadn't thought that through. Does it not allow for a click to open on "bulb" and a click to close (or am I just dreaming this..... in fact that could even have been an F90 or F100 trick....)

yep the ML-L3 can be used on Bulb as you describe, if the ML-L3 will work with the D3100 then i think ive got one spare from when i had my D40x, OP is more than welcome to it (though ive no way of testing it)

Bulb is one long exposure though isn't it?

I think the stacking way of star trails is easier (especially with starstax)

I've just had a look if it will work with my camera and unfortunately it wont thank you for your offer though

Looks like im going to have to go for a wired one

There were 2 or 3 remote wired shutters and a £70 wireless 2.4ghz one (from memory here) in my high street Jessops or LCE last weekend which I thought were suitable for d3100. Would that one do? Is there some reason that they would fit other Nikons but not the D3100?

I also think there was one with a timer built-in, presumably for timing your own length of exposure? Is this possible?

A bit cheaper, also doubles up as a wireless flash. I have just bought the Canon version and it is exellent.

The Hahnel website says it works with the 3100
