Checking a diff

Just about to take my diff out to replace worn upper bush. Checking everything over there is no play in the cv joints and it's dry, all seems well. Following guidance in the bible I have checked the backlash on the passenger side rear wheel and it's spot on, however on the drivers side I cannot break the resistance turning the wheel - do I need to worry?

When you turn the offside wheel, the inside wheel turns in the same direction?

The bible refers to checking a diff and suggests you jack up the passenger side wheel, put it in gear and turn you get about 30mm free play at the circumference of the wheel, Mine is spot on. It then goes on to say if you do the same on the drivers side ie with the passenger side wheel on the ground you should be able to break the resistance by hand on the drivers side wheel. I cant, I am getting 30mm free play and then it bits and I cant break the resistance. Does this indicate a problem or am I worrying unneccessarily??
