Newquay cycling, MTB or Roadie?

Having a long weekend in Newquay in the summer for a birthday party, I will be taking a bike down with me to pass the hours, I dont know what its like around that area for cycling, are the roads cycle friendly, are there any decent off road routes/paths/centres for MTB's?
What would you say is better suited, MTB or road?

I have ridden from coverack round to sennen cove on a mountain bike and had a superb time. No idea about road biking it.

definately mtb, the roads are ok but very busy. i know the roads to the south a bit better, from Falmouth west to St Ives but the roads arent what i would call cycle friendly primarily because as the A3075, the A392 and the A30 are the main roads in the area and get all the lorries and once off the main roads, a lot of the single carriageways have 50 mph speed limits and I have found people drive fast on the country lanes too even with high hedges and there is often mud on the road and so you arent that safe away from them.

personally i would take the mtb and scour the OS map first for some good circular routes, then if you see a sign for a rupp, byway or bridlepath just go for it and see where you end up.
