Lotus Elise Roll Cage - MSA Approval
Discussion
I currently have a Custom Cages T45 4-point cage in my Elise.
The regs of the championship I am looking at running in specify the following:
To comply to drawing number(s) 3,4,5 or 6 + side impact protection of K (g) (h)
Drawing numbers 3,4,5 or 6 basically means it needs to be a six point with front mounts but both the side protection options listed include 2 door bars either side.
Question is, does anyone know if the MSA allow any exemption from the side protection aspect due to the high sills?
If I had to fit two door bars on either side it would be impossible to get in and out.
TIA
Dan

Can't help you on your question (I would have thought SELOC would be the best place, plenty of racers on there), but does this mean you're finally planning on joining us in the NSSCC? I spoke to you a while back and you were talking about it but we never saw you last year.
EDIT - if it is the NSSCC, best advice would be to speak to Steve Gibson (01642 644201) and go from there.

Hi Mark,
Yeah I just didn't have any time to build the car for last year.
It's looking unlikely that I'll be racing with the NSSCC this year due to some new additions to the regulations that exclude my car but I have contacted Steve about it and still hope to be able to support the championship this year.
Are you out again this year? I noticed you had the car up for sale. Have you changed you mind? :-)
I have asked the question on SELOC also so hopefully I'll get a response.
I have also contacted Custom Cages to see if they can help.
Cheers

I thought an Elise only required the rear hoop and no other front bars to conform to MSA regs, as a lot of Elise trophy cars.(with uprated rear suports)
Raced ours a couple of times last year without any front bars without problems (but we have now fitted a full cage, without door bars)
Without the front cage there is nothing to weld door bars to !
