how to remove a crankshaft pulley
Discussion
A neighbour is having problems removing the crankshaft pulley on an automatic Mitsubishi Pajero - the crankshaft pulley bolt is stuck fast and being an auto it's difficult to stop the engine turning over.
Anyone have any siggestions on how to remove the bolt on an automatic?
Thanks
James

Take out one of the plugs, fill the pot with oil then put the plug back. Remember to get the oil out again before trying to start the engine
And bend a rod in the process....not good.
Apply heat in the form of a blowtorch, then penetrating oil.
Then beg, borrow or steal an air impact wrench and compressor with a 3/4 drive socket (6 sided not 12) and itll fly off in short order.

Thanks all. However before I could get back to him he sorted the problem by removing the lower part of the cambelt cover with a large hammer so he didn't need to get the pulley off to get to the faulty waterpump.
He said the cambelt may have slipped a couple of teeth also so he's set it back by 2 just in case
I've told him to turn it over by hand if possible to avoid mechanical disaster. Hopefully he will....
Thanks for your help anyway.
