Just been to the Birthday of one of our little girls school friends ( 6 ) at one of these jumping around places.

I said I would take some pics of the proceedings for the Mum.

Lights not fantastic and I wanted a bit of reach so I’m using the 70-200 F2.8. About an hour in the owner of the establishment approaches me and requests that I only take pictures of the kids in the group I’m with.

I tell her that’s exactly what I’m doing.

I then ask her why when their must be a hundred other adults with cameras in the building taking pictures of kids she felt it was necessary to ask me.

Her answer after some err’ing..... Well you’ve got a big camera ...... rolleyes

I bet you're a terrorist too.

Proven fact that Al Qaeda favour the 70-200.

I was once in the pitlane at Snetterton during a general test day with a 30D and Sigma 120-300mm and was told I needed to be signed on in order to take pictures. I asked whether all the folks there with compacts needed to be signed on as well? I was left to get on with it after that.

It's the high res and quality people don't like. Instant P45.

(for those that may have missed)

I took mine down to my god-daughters 5th birthday party at her parents request.

Was at an adventure playground type place indoors, I have to say i felt a little uncomfortable about peoples perceptions and was very conscious of only trying to snap the 2 girls I knew.

Changing from the 18-105 to the 50 did make me feel like less of a nonce!

I moved to Micro Four Thirds six months ago, not only was it fantastic carrying around two bodies and 4 lenses around New York in a small light bag, but nobody takes any notice of it at all. I felt far more comfortable shooting in certain places (i.e. the Subway) than I ever did when I owned a full Nikon set-up.

I got less people asking me to take photos of them with their camera as well smile

Really wish I hadn't read this. I've just forked out the better part of £300 for a DSLR etc after persuading the missus that with our first on the way we'd want to capture all those precious moments.

Unless I use this as an excuse to spend another £200 on an S95 scratchchin

But film SLR's or medium formats or large formats for that matter are presumably fine. Crazy people everywhere.

When I first bought my D70 back in 2005 and took it to a safari park to try it out people would move out of the way so I could get a better shot. An SLR wasn't too common a site back then so they must have thought I knew what I was doing, either that or I smelt.

Nowadays every one's got an SLR so I'm surprised they picked you out.

I'm pretty sure it's because I was using the 200mil. If I had been using the standard 18-55 I dont think they would have give me a second thought.

I could almost better understand that if they had said you needed to be signed on to be in the pit lane. That would then mean you had accepted the risk of being there with or without a camera. There is, potentially, a higher risk when prowling the pit lane for shots (rather than the odd 'snap' of the people one is with on a compact held at arm's length) when working with an SLR to the eye. In theory.

However you may have been unlucky with the person concerned.

My friends all refer to DSLR cameras as 'Paedo-Cams' as a matter of course now.

We all use the term without thinking.

"OK mate I'll see you at the track in a bit! You gonna bring the Paedo Cam?"

etc...

They'll have a tough time at the Olympics then, with hundreds of pro shooters and their Pervotronic Deluxe (TM) 600mm lenses...

It's all so bloody stupid.

Terrorists and Paedo's... How on earth are they going to get photos of stuff without using a DSLR?

Funny my son went to a birthday party at one of these indoor play gyms after Xmas....I took our S95 rather than my D7000 with 24-70 so as not to look "suspicious".....I must have had the smallest camera there....most other people seemed to have dslr's with kit lenses. I reckon having a proper flash gun is what would really stick out.....
