A fish called Pangas (the cheapest fish money can buy, I read)

I ordered a fish and chips pub lunch yesterday, the fish was revolting.
Slimy, flavourless, no texture...

I couldn't eat it. She tried some and also couldn't eat it.
She said... it smelt like semen.

Being a smoker my nose isnt as sharp as it once was... so had a sniff at her suggestion and it really does smell exactly like semen.

Don't ask how I know what semen smells like. (I produce it, therefore I have smelt it).

Everyone that worked in the pub was Gay. The waiter said it tasted very nice hehe

Avoid like the plague. Tesco import the stuff from Vietnam apparently, its made quite a few internet posters very sick.

Duly noted.

However I do believe there is a more sinister side to the 'I know what semen smells like' story hehe

I've seen Vietnamese River Cobbler for sale at Tesco before, I certainly won't be buying it now.

Not that I would have anyway, mind.

What a load of rubbish!

What you bought obviously had something wrong with it. There's nothing wrong with Pangas/River Cobbler... it smells and tastes like cod, to the point that some fish & chip shops were illegally passing it off as cod!

And that link with all the scare stories about contaminants etc... tests here in the UK have found no trace of any contaminants, it's perfectly safe to eat. Typical scare reporting, probably initiated by the local fishing industry due to Pangas being cheap, and putting pressure on the high pricing of cod.

Kudos

I'd be more worried that missus thinks my semen tastes of fish!

Yup.

I've developed stomach cramps and ensued by the squits an hour ago, too.
If I die, I hope my breath no longer smells like semen when I'm chucked on the slab.

Exactly - I've had river cobbler before, I'm not dead yet. As I recall it was very similar to cod - bland white fish is bland white fish really. I think you got an off piece.

If you're worried about contaminants I'd avoid farmed salmon before worrying about these.

If you still have breath when on the morticians slab I'd take issue with your Doctor.

And is the answer to the original question a creampie?

Is this the same as 'panga' fish?

Because I had pangs fish in Newquay last year, and by a considerable margin it was the nicest fish I've ever had!

Chap at the pub said Panga, not pangs.
Google turned up Pangas (I think).

I would never eat Panga/Pangas again based on taste, ended up with stomach cramps which left me on and off the bog all night, which seems to be the trend as far as reviews go. I posted my dislike of the fish long before the cramps started... never again.

River Cobbler is a great fish for fish pie as it remains firm during cooking. It's a little bit too 'meaty' for traditional fish 'n' chips, IMO.

Strangely enough, I had never heard of Panga, until I saw my (local) mobile chip shop offering it for sale last night!

How very strangely.
Make Doogz gargle it to be sure it's the genuine fraud!
