I have been reading on a couple of the specialist web sites about the some of the money people are making out of Fake 60's tuning parts
See the example below from a Mini Cooper site.
What other makes suffer like this.

"WOW this ebay listing is full of WHOPPERS, not only is the S speedo a wrong un but all the Broadspeed stuff is FAKE too!!!!
Jack is right - these dash pods have absolutely nothing to do with Broadspeed & were in fact originally designed by Nick Vortz after Broadspeed had stopped doing mini parts.
The seller is also selling other parts on the side in his listing - nudge nudge wink wink - claiming them to be Broadspeed also

The seller has been contacted & pics of these other items being offered have now been received so an accurate assessment can be made.
I am 90% sure these gear knobs NEVER existed, in fact they were never fitted to any Team Broadspeed mini or anglia. They are also offered on the seller's own website with "Broadspeed flash or BMC Logo" as you would with an original Broadspeed item.
With this picture of the rocker cover plates the seller states "Original Broadspeed Badge - £100 ( Crap one above)."
These rocker cover badges are both repro "Crap" , neither are genuine Broadspeed items as claimed by the seller. Some letters are the wrong font, the spacing between the words Broadspeed & Birmingham England are incorrect, the colour although similar is not correct & neither have the correct sheen. There are other discrepancies but I think I've given enough away already.
These rocker covers have already been the subject of a thread on this forum & have been proved to be only genuine in the seller's imagination. Broadspeed never made their own alloy rocker cover.
These covers offered are a copy of a Landar one with the word Broadspeed badly cast into them.
The seller is a fellow poster on this forum so it would be great to have his response about these " Original Broadspeed" parts & the "120MPH Mini Cooper S Speedo- Fully Reconditioned"

I don’t think singling one person out is a good idea (it will breach name and shame rules and therefore stifle any discussion) However, there have been a few threads on here about this problem, I recall one in particular, where sets of carbs for a Jaguar were being reproduced and sold on as originals for many thousands (maybe Tony / Lowdrag could chip in and confirm if I have the right)

I most certainly can milord. Two years back I spotted on Ebay an extremely rare set of carburettors, namely DCO4's complete with manifold. Now these are hen's teeth and to find a set is rarer than rare. I followed the auction with interest. Here are the thumbnails I captured:-
Look perfect, don't they? Proper sand cast Weber tops and the correct labels with a serial number for each carb. The bidding finished at £7,500 and the seller delayed the posting until after the 30 day complaint time granted by Ebay. What the buyer actually got was a complete fake. You'll note that the photos are taken from above, and this was to conceal that the carburettors were in fact DCOE 45's with a crudely made DCO4 top, hence no side-on photos were shown which would have given the scam away. Luckily I had kept these photos, and the buyer got - eventually - his money back, and the seller, not far from Bristol, is still active. I know of an american who was caught in a similar scam by the same seller.

The grudge is not mine ( any more), I have fallen foul of itinerary the past when I still had minis.
The text from was written by an old friend an expert and owner of proven Boardspeed stuff and two GTs, as a warning two others after he had questioned some of items that were being claimed as genuine NOS.

this nothing new in the 80s a classics restoration company my mate worked for was able to find many "geniune" Mini Cooper parts for a Japanese buyer who was paying higher than UK values for these parts
if people place a higher value on something then copies and chancers will come out of the woodwork
"labels" "prestige vehicles" "celebrity" "sports/racing celebrities/stars/heros" you decide how much these add value to ordinay items, lumps of metal and in other respects quite ordinary people
