Forza: Unlocked storefront paintjobs

This has happened a few times since I started playing Forza, I put a paintjob up for sale for the reasonable price of 10'000cr or vinyl groups for 2000cr and almost immediately someone will ask for an unlocked version of it, why?

Last night I finished a paintjob for my Escort Cossie and loaded it to the storefront, I've sold 7 so far and 5 of those sent me a message asking for it unlocked, I just ignore them at the moment, what does everyone else do when they get asked?

I assume they want it unlocked so that they can then tweek it a little bit and sell it on their own storefronts

I might try that next time, a Unicorn car or 10mil, I got offered half a mil for mine last night, I laughed.

It still is a bit cheeky if that's what they do with them, I remember Forza2 when you had the choice to sell them unlocked or not

I've had that for Carbon fibre paint jobs. Someone offered me 50k for in unlocked. Told him to come back with a real offer and got nothing but abuse that I wouldn't give away my work for pennies. Very funny as carbon fibre isnt even that hard to do and there are lods of really easy to follow tutorials on the web.


ps. You won't get a unicorn as payment, they are un-giftable/un-sellable by anyone but Turn10 themselves but keep asking big money, someone will eventually pay up!

You always get people trying to get unlocks. In FM4 its so easy to make money that peoples offers are not worth it.

A big DONT no matter what. A paint can fetch millions (my SS already has hit 1.5)

Made the mistake in FM3 of gifting a few paints to 'friends', within a week they were on the SF of 6 plus different people, who hadn't even bothered to take my GT signature off the cars.

Now all request are met with a polite 'No sorry I don't unlock'

I know what you mean, in Forza3 I struggled to make a million cr in the 2 years I played it, this time it's throwing money at me and more coming in from the storefront.

Is it best to sell paints or share them and get better ratings?

That has also happened to me, I was aksed politely to make a Red Bull paint scheme for a club I was in at the time, I did it and shared it with the club, all 6 members, I never even bothered to sell it myself as I didn't think there would be any interest in it

Well I freely admit that i pimped my paints on FM3 as i joined FM3 about a year after release and having people offer good money for paints unlocked meant i could enjoy the game a little more. But FM4 is a different story and what work is mine stays mine (Few things I share with PH members).

Personally I sell them. I think my most expensive is 25K and cheapest about 8K. You can earn 25K in one race so wont break anyones bank. Got one car at 18,000 and about 500+ downloads. If people like it they will buy it. Most importantly is getting your description right so people can find it. If someone makes a shoddy replica but describes it well and you have done the same paint that is far superior but not added the description they WILL out sell you ten fold.

I've been wondering about this too, I put my KICK Energy sponsored Lancia Stratos on the storefront for 10K, and some lad is offering me 10 million to send it to him!!! Part of me thinks I should take the money, but I put some good work into it and don't want it ripped off.

That's how I feel about my Escort, it took me a long time to get it looking right and it's the only one I've found with everything in the right place, if I sell it unlocked how many will end up on the SF out selling mine because I'm not part of the wider community?

Its not just that. People will strip the design down to parts and load the logos up to the SF aswell.

Id happily gift vinyls to friends or anyone off here. To me its more of a challenge completing them. Im not to bothered about selling them just more interested in how many people want them.

Not done any in the last month. Need some new ideas now.

It's cool that you guys do that, and I'm sure there is a level of trust there as well that says "I won't sell other peoples work as my own and take credit for it" when you sell to stangers there isn't

Exactly. If you break a car design down so lets say its like the following:

Base Paint - 1-20 hours
Main Logo - 10mins to 4 hours
Primary Logos - 10 mins to 4 hours
Secondary Logos - 10 mins to 2 hours

So something like this would take about 24 hours:



Point is I do not mind sharing with most Pistonheaders. But I would not share with someone who just messaged me. I must say the ones who have asked for paints unlocked and got a "No" have responded better than the ones in FM3 where id get an abusive message for not sending a paint i spend 70 hours on!

The thing is like everything in life its all about how you treat other people. I have a good relationship with painters here, on FMUK and a fair few over the Forza community. If you go around trying to bum logos and designs off of people you will get nowhere. Yet if you help, support people, throw a few logos around then you will find that if they want something they will come to you, and if you want something then they can help you. Many a time I have a logo to do and I know someone has it. So rather than waste time ill ask if they would mind sending it and 9 times out of 10 ill find it in my message center.

If anyone wants a hand with paints just ask. Sometimes i can help with logos or throw a few tricks around.

Unless you want multiple versions of your paint appearing on the SF, not just on the car you've done the paint on, but also on other cars as well, do not sell your paint's unlocked. Your unique paint job will become as common as a Ken Block Monster Energy drink paint .

I always refuse to sell my designs unlocked when I get messages on XBL from complete randoms. I do gift paint jobs to people that I know and I can really trust. In return they gift tunes or paints back to me. Same with logo's I am quite happy to gift a logo out to someone to help them out, I know they could have made the logo themselves anyway and it's more a time saving thing. Again said friends have also gifted logos to me to help me out. So it's a two way thing

And it gives me the chance to do something silly like the Donuts Fiat 500

And Dan's estimates are spot on, my Wrathall BTCC Lexus IF took ages with the smaller logos like Titan
