i have been before and stayed at the goldcoast so off strip but not that far off it. it was all right served a purpose a bed to sleep in a place to get showered etc.

But we are off back in 2014 (nowt like forward planning hey;) ) but this time we are off with a much bigger budget and more people and we have been thinking is it really worth spending the money on a) a better hotel and b) a suite.

i mean arnt most of every hotels facilities open to non residents ?

we are going with the in-laws for their wedding anniversary and 2 big birthdays.

should we spend money on the hotel or use it for other things ?

anyone provide any insight

yes i would definitely spend more on a hotel suite!
first time i went i spent a lot and stayed in a top suite at the Venetian. Absolutely amazing!!! Second time i thought i'd save some money and went for a budget suite at the Monte Carlo. Nowhere near as nice and a bit dated!
I would never stay in a normal room in Vegas. Make sure you go for a suite at least, and try and get a nice one in a nicer hotel. You won't regret it. You're going to Vegas1 you have to do everything big!!! biggrin

A friend stayed in the die hard suite at planet hollywood. I have never seen such an amazing set of rooms. They have various other themed suites with props and clothing from the films displayed within.

It made everyones elses lovely standard rooms at the Bellagio, Caesers Palace, Mirage etc look like Travel Inns.

My advice would be book a basic room in one of the nice hotels and then upgrade when you get there, when we went last year I managed to upgrade our room to a spa suite on checkin for only $30 extra per night. If we had done this when booking the holiday through the travel agent it would have been around £1000 extra.

+1 and sometimes you can get the upgrade free

Not sure that there was any trick to obtaining my upgrade, I simply asked how much it would be to upgrade to the perticular room that we wanted while checking in. The inital price offered was $100 per night and I worked down from there to $30 per night.

Circus Circus and the Flamingo come to mind.

supposedly if you slip the desk jocky $20/$50 dollars on checking in it helps you get upgrades

Ah I see, never done that myself. I find that in the states in perticular being nice and polite to the staff goes a long way towards receiving this type of treatment.

If you're hitting Vegas during a quiet time you may get more as the hotels will be less busy, we where there in December and it was quite busy and I couldn't believe how much busier it got over the weekend...the place turned into crazy town.

This works! We did it at the Venetian and got upgraded to a suite on a higher floor with a strip view!

Best hotels IMO are
1. Wynn
2. Venetian
3.THE hotel
4 Manadalay bay
5 Bellagio

All for different reasons but Venetian is best placed.

Only two days ago was at the Mandarin for two nights( third time) much better than the bellagio I have stayed at every year since it opened. Can not really think of staying longer than two or three nights though and I have always had a motorhome or car ! If you want to visit the "sights" out and about, consider a motor home, done if fifteen times now.

If you can, the drive between the two through Yosemite is particularly nice, and worth doing.

You'll need to book well in advance if you want to stay in Yosemite, (I think,) but it would be worth it.

We loved Mandalay, and its at the cheaper end of the good hotels.

Another recommendation for the Wynn. I've stayed twice in the Tower Suites (Parlor Suite I think it was) and they're great rooms (see youtube).

Paid full price both times though which stings a bit, go off-season/mid-week for the best deals.
