Phoned my friendly MOT station and they are no longer taking customers - can anyone PM me somewhere to go if possible - the car is roadworthy just has no cat.

In Redditch but anywhere near Brum/Redditch is fine

Cheers

Went to walk the track at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb on New Year's Day and got speaking to a chap called Mike Fisher. He is now retired, but his business continues with both his son and grandson working there.

Fisher Restorations in Droitwich does MOTs and I plan on taking my non-cat Caterham 7 there when I bring it off SORN in late Feb. As they are used to dealing with older vehicles as well as more recent ones, Mike said that having no cat would be quite normal for them.

I think the OP is noting that the rules have just changed and if it had a cat when new - it must have one now, regardless of emissions readings.

What does "they are no longer taking customers" mean, have they stopped doing MOTs?

Thanks for the replies - to confirm the car should have a cat and my previous choice of MOT station has had their license revoked.

It will fail on emissions wink

I think I'll just be putting the cat back on the car - it needs to go back to standard anyway to sell.

How easy is it to change?

If it was mine (mine has never had a cat!) I'd make sure it was easy!

depends on the car, normally fairly easy... my car its a case of 4 bolts 2 gaskets and a decat pipe costing £30 and around 15 minutes of your time..

And all of those mentioned for turning a blind eye on here will be joining that list too!

ie. if you know somewhere that might let the odd thing pass, don't put their names up on here!

I dont take mine to somewhere that will let things pass, how would you know what safety issues thay may also be missing? I take it somewhere who are instructed to do whatever work is necessary for the car to pass its MOT. To date it has not failed smile

Seems they were too friendly then which shows you can't have friends if you run an MOT centre.

I guess most people just want a fair test - no "failing it so they can fix it" mentality.

However one persons fair may not match anothers.....

The only fair test is a test carried out to the manual. Unfortunatly the general public seem to have a different view of what is and aint a fail. It was bad enough when testers just had the opening line of "my mate down the pub says...." but now we also have internet forums and the many opinons that presenters now come "armed" with biglaugh

Hi Oli!

The place I used to take it wouldn't fail a dangerous car, they were just lenient when it came to emissions. I'm not sure why they got shut down, but along with the new rules it's easier to just put the cat back on. It's a shame it's in the bloody manifold!
