Yep as per my usual luck with the bucket, it had to happen sooner or later.

A very kind woman reversed her Mito into the front of it.. wonderful!

In local supermarket carpark, im parked up, she drives past me in the 1 way system, i move out of space behind her and start to follow her round the 1 way system to go out the carpark. All normal so far...

She then stops. Puts it into reverse and without checking her mirrors, reverses back down the 1 way system (the wrong way) and straight into the front of the bucketlander. Oblivious to A, the bucket being rather large, B my hands firmly on the horn trying to get her attension.

She hits the front of the bucket and stops, we get out and shes clearly upset etc, "ive never had an accident before etc" Me "why did you reverse into my car?" I've yet to get an answer to that one btw..

We park up in bays and swap details. Thanks to my new nudge bar, i have no real damage to the front of the bucket, the bar has some scratches and a small chip/dent and the rubber grommet at the bottom was dislodged, but that was sorted with 5 minutes with a screw driver. Scratches etc i can live with as the buckets going to be getting used off road again so it will pick up some marks etc anyway.

Her 60 plate alfa mito needs a new back bumper and has a nice dent in the bootlid..

I still dont understand why she would drive round the 1 way system, come to a complete stop. Select reverse and not look in the mirrors etc and reverse into my car. My mates dont get it, my parents dont get it. No one i've spoke to gets it. Even God himself doesnt get it. hehe

Anyway, ive told her it would be best to take it to alfa and get a direct quote to repair rather than take the insurance route as her excess and future NCB's will take a dent and ive nothing to fix as the nudge bar took the full impact and thats bolted directly to the front cross member/slam panel so its going no where.

Picture of said nudge bar and my new driving lamps that were also undamaged. ( thankfully! ) Both are genuine LR parts, the nudge bar is rarer than a rocking horse st btw, i've only ever seen 1 before on a freeby and that was 2 years ago and the bar on my car was a lucky ebay find thanks to a friend. The nearest LR dealer that sells them brand new is in Los Angeles and they wont ship out the US and they only do a chrome version...

Hope everyone else had a better end to 2011. I almost made it 2 years without someone sticking their car into mine, Almost. frown Still its been out the garage for major mechanical repairs since may 10, so thats currently a new record and counting hehe

This better not affect my insurance or i will be very unhappy about it!

That sucks. Without wanting to sound too pessimistic, make sure you have witnesses or any CCTV footage. She could easily turn the truth into 'he hit the back of me when I stopped'!

Even if she seemed like the nicest, most honest, genuinely upset-at-her-mistake type person at the time.

This.

The wife got backed into in a supermarket car park, the culprit was all, "It's my fault, I didn't see you" at the scene. After speaking to his insurers, it turned into a 50/50 incident. Strange how that happens?

Even if she doesn't want to, family can often perused someone to tell a few porkies to help pay for repairs. I've seen it before, and it is so annoying.

Bad luck mate, but maybe this year will be better.

Hmm, Landrover call it a nudge bar though. The seller was a 4x4 specialist from ebay and he described it as a nudge bar. The code and fitting guide all called it nudge bar.. I do see your point though.

All mods are declaired to my insurer though, covered under "exterior decorative changes" Which their wording for the visual changes from standard ive done. That term has been on my policy for the last 2 years from the same insurance company. smile

Will see if theres cctv footage of the carpark, i would think her insurer though would be wondering how she managed to not see my car, and reverse into it.

Wouldn't worry about it young man.

why do you know horrible nasty litigation lawyers if you can't call on a favor some time? If I were instructed and she intimated a claim against you, I would have her car burned for you etc etc

Don't report the mater to your insurers if you are not making a claim. What she does is up to her, but if she tries to intimate a claim against yours tell them to refuse to accept it or deal with it as you will deal with it yourself at your own expense and then give me a call.

Guys, would 10 L of petrol be enough to burn a Mito?

Gotta agree with this, a number of years ago i was sitting at the (red)lights at Tesco in Killie, 4 lane one way system, woman runs into the back of me, she's crying, apologetic, etc. I exchange details etc.
Then the bh claims i reversed into her!!!
It took me nearly a year to get paid out, as my insurance co seemed happy with 50/50.
Sadly, trust nobody in a situation like that would be my advice.

A Mito's about the same size a micra, so whatever you'd normally use for Micra burning would probably also work on the Mito smile

Alan, glad the bucket lives to fight another day.

This^^^^^, what a bloody sad state of affairs we have in this country at times...

OP, watch out for the usual mongrels attempting to rape your (insurers) wallet for the whiplash claim!

I told her not to be so obvious about the incident. Silly mare!! I feel that I've just wasted a tenner wink

Seriously, crap news young'un. Glad the bucket isn't too hard done to but be careful when dealing with bumps from other people. As has been said normally decent people can turn into satan incarnate once "family" hear and add their 2p worth.
