Filter help

I know some of you guys will probably laugh at me, but I have just bought some filters for my camera ( kit of 3 from ebay), a polarising filter, a diffusion filter, and a UV filter and I need to know what you need to use each filter for.

I do put a UV filter on my lenses for protection.
I'm going to have to do some test shots now to see if there is any difference.

Do any of the PH crowd have an opinion on this?

I use my UV for lens protection. Thats about it.

Although i have an ND grad and a polarizing filter , i have not used them yet.

I only ever use UV filters for protection in difficult situations like photographing rallying where there is lots of mud and rocks flying about, otherwise they stay off.

I use Hoya Pro1 Digital UV filters on all my lenses. I guess there probably is a slight difference to the image but not enough to mean I'd be willing to risk my front elements.

I've also got a Hoya CPL but I don't use it really - too fiddly unless you're on a tripod or not using a lens hood.

I have a UV on most of the time and use a CPL when shooting my fish etc, but I also have an FLD but think I'm using it wrong as it just makes everything pink!!!

Thanks guys, unusually for PH everyone has been helpful
The links are helpful so I know what to do now (in theory at least) I guess I just need to have a play now and see how they change the images
