Feeling slightly disgruntled.
Chimaera has been in garage (don't like to say which one) for a new ECU after car died on driveway when both other cars were in for services!! Oh the wit of a TVR.
Anyway, they chap at the garage suggested that instead of spending £495 excl. VAT on a new one we could recondition an old one as they rarely go wrong. Okay we said. Since then (4 April) we have had a pretty duff ride. Apparently the third-party company that deal with these are having difficulty with some aspect of the process or another, and that I guess is understandable. But the story has kept changing, and time and time again I kept saying, just get a new one (which for the sake of a hundred pounds or two seemed reasonable). No, no said the chap, we can save you money. Anyway long story sort, the ECU was supposed to be delivered last Monday/Tuesday, but when I called I got some odd tale of the chap that he speaks to is not that chap that heads up the work, (although a nice bloke) and how he is just as frustrated and stuck in the middle.

SORRY !?! How is that my problem? I have been very patient, and they want to tell me how bad it is for them!!!??? He then suggested that we order a new one at full price on Friday and it should be with them next week! Aaargh... Did write more but ran out of room, keeping rants to a limit...
Independent or Dealer for such things?

Had a couple of ECUs from CAMCO in Warrington. They both seemed to work OK, gave no problems etc. They also offer a pretty sophisticated testing service which is quite expensive but they discount it if you buy an ECU.

My ECU went last year and the Dealer put in a new one (£1000) and sent the old one off to TVR for repair (took about 10 months) but I now have the old one back and a credit note from the dealer who has put the ECU back in stock.

Sounds like a good case to argue for similar treatment.
