Just got back from the NEC Sportscar show...

I'd like to say TOP EFFORT to the sporting bears.

I know a number of people who frequent these pages were in attendance, and were taking people out for rides. Well done all of you, I've no idea how much cash was made but it must have been a mint.

Cheers Dan

P.S. Flasher, I have video evidence of you chatting up that 12 year old

Excellent effort chaps. One thing to say though - it is easy to forget that TVRs are actually quite special. You should have seen the crowd when they came out (2 chimaeras, 1 griffith, 1 tuscan and flasher at least) - always got lots of admiring glances and everyone was listening out for the noise....

Ok, so there were a few Ferraris (and even some new 360 spiders!) but considering the TVR's were a fraction of the cost - rather impressive response.

Though, I must admit I would have loved to have a go in that Lagonda. A loverly '30 open top - nice. Didnt get the time though. Good to see that people did take allsorts of machinery...

Cheers,

Paul

P.S. Rest of show was OK - maybe next year will be bigger.

Smudge posting actually, (ebrettle).
Could only get a go in 1 4.ol Chimaera - which we have one of but been in garage since 4 April, (should be back next week)and crikey hadn't realised how much I missed it! - would say to any sporting bears though that the "donations" could have been a bit more in line with the cars. Griff for £25, Tamora for £20? Some went pretty quickly. Hmm, something amiss I fear. Tuscan wasn't on the board when I booked though which was a shame, good sign though ;-)

Great day though, thinking about taking ours for a sporting bear event and driving people round myself. Should probably take a "with passenger in fast car" test though? Any ideas? Would hate to just scare people with my inexperience!!

Think they had taken about £10k that day when I had a go (2pm, Saturday) so they must have done really well. Big shout out.

The final figure was over 25 grand with the money going to childrens charities, there the similar thing at Gaydon for SuperCar Sunday for people who missed out this time, think the money raised from this event
goes to the B'ham Childrens Hospitial

The Sporting Bears were parked up in the main hall, their roaring V8s and 12s echoing accross the stands really helped make the rest of the exhibition something to remember.

The viewing area / drag strip outside Hall 5 drew a pretty big crowd on both days. Two cars really stand out in my mind. The Chimaera with the spider alloys - your antics were a real crowd pleaser. Plus, the Megabusa made all the other cars look slow. Did either of you have enough rubber on your rear tyres to get home ? I doubt it

A while back my wife said we should join the Sporting Bears... because she wanted the sweat-shirt with the Teddy bear sitting in a TR3 on it! Can you believe that..! So a quick question what do they do and are they worth joining? Rich...

Rich

Take a look at www.sportingbears.org.uk/

I'm seriously considering joining, and would also appreciate comments from existing members.

Cheers Dan

On a slight aside - who's was the Chimaera with the different exhaust? Is is a full sports or a half sports? Makes a rather different noise at low revs (much more burble) and high revs there was a unusual rasp (if that is the best way to describe it).

What is it and worth the upgrade? Worth the money?

Cheers,

Paul

With the benefit of one day under my belt (!), I would say that you will like Sporting Bears if you enjoy sharing your car with other enthusiasts. I think everybody wins on dream rides: you make a lot of money for charity; your passengers get a ride to remember; and as a driver you get to enjoy your car through someone else's eyes and make their day. Be under no illusion though- YOU make the donation to charity as it is you that picks up the tab for wear and tear.

There was a Lambo there on the Sunday, not the Muira but a Countach I think with a large dent in the rear near side panel.

Anyone know if the accident happened at the show?

It was a Diablo. Apparently it had a disagreement with a lorry or something. There was a Miura too. The owner was a bald bearded bloke with a bit of a gut. He looked like a real ale drinker and pie eater Good Lad!

On the way home on from the NEC on Sunday pm I saw a Diablo on the other side of the M42 (it was n/bound). Parked on the hard-shoulder. Pointing the wrong way...

Didn't appear to be damaged though (well, the side I could see looked ok).

Yeh we saw that too..

It was Orange and looked as though the near side rear was flat!!

As was mentioned didn't look damaged other than reduced cabin pressure caused by the driver sucking all the air in

The one doing the Sporting Bears was light metallic purple. There was an orange one on the Tangerine Stand so could have been that one?

Cheers..... Andrew

PS. Flasher, I think FG is Fairy Godmother!!!!
