As my knowledge of computers is extemely limited, infact almost non existant, I thought one of you may be able to help. Just recently, the display on my monitor has become extremely blurred, as to almost be unreadable. I have consulted the manual, and "Degaussed" the monitor, with no noticable effect. I have even resorted to wiping the whole system, which is Windows M.E by the way, and re installing it. But all this achived was to loose all the stuff I have struggled over the last year to compile. Any help in this matter would be very much appreciated. Appologies for any spelling mistakes in this post, it's not that I'm thick, it's just that I can't read the screen very well. Cheers in advance, Simon.

Is it a CRT or TFT panel? Can you get hold of another screen to swap it out? Did you change anything prior to the screen going blurred?

If its a CRT it might just have passed on, they do you know! If its a TFT you might have changed to a non native resolution (eg 800x600 on a 1024x768 panel) which can sometimes be a little like peering through a rainy window.

I'd try this:
swap the monitor with another. If problem goes away the monitor is suspect. Try it on another PC, if it still looks the same and there are no adjustments available, start looking for another.

if the problem persists with a different monitor then next thing to try is swapping the video card - which means opening it up.

Software wise unless you just installed a new video driver I can't see how anything would affect the monitor in this way - and a driver is likely to either work or not, an not likley just to give a blurred image.

Good luck!

It's usually the monitor that's at fault.

We have them fail in this way a fair bit at work.

Gentlemen, thankyou for your help. Phil, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but I have just changed the monitor for my old one, which is only a 15" screen and it now seems fine, although it's like sitting in the gods at the theatre. Carzee, my glasses are perfectly clean, although they are at the moment charged with a superb Ruby Cabernet. Once again the versitily of the P/h comunity has come up trumps. Thanks again. Simon.
