root canal temporary filling fallen out

had 4th treatment for root canal today and the temp filling they have put in has now got a dirty big hole in it what do i do? do i wait and try and get in tomorrow or emergency dentist or what ?
its the second molar on the right upper

any ideas

The access cavity for an RCT is usually fairly deep in a molar so there is a certain thickness of temporary filling.

It may well just be hollowed out slightly but actually still be doing its job.

Having said that, if it has completely fallen out it needs to be replaced.

well the mrs said there is a big hole and stuff came out of it didnt look like cotton wool though.

now with pic best i can do with camera stuffed in mouth lol

Hard to say with that photo I'm afraid! I can't work out what that shiny brownish thing is although the white is obviously the temp.

I'd call your dentist if I were you and ask if he can take a peak at it.

BTW any idea why you are on your 4th appointment with it? Retreatment, painful?

1st xray 30mins
2nd take filling out and find how many roots 60mins
3rd take 2 nerves out 60 mins
4th take last nerve out and shape holes ? 60mins

then i apparently need three more 1 more to fill it then 2 to do crown
next appointment is 18th of jan

3.5 hours to do an RCT? That's one difficult tooth!

If you were my patient and I'd root treated a tooth and the temp had fallen out I'd want to see you straight away to pop something back in ASAP, the literature backs this up as well.

I'm sure your dentist would think likewise, the question is, has it actually fallen out? . Give him a call and see if he'll see you before it takes a battering over Xmas.

As Driller says...lost temp means bugs are flooding in which could add another couple of appointments to finish. Boy are they taking their time over this. Must be costing you a fortune!

well they filled it again today used a different filling material today so we shall see how it holds up.

im on the nhs so its costing £204 thankfully

Get them to put in a stronger one !!!! Not some putty. Ask for glass ionomer! Essential as if it leaks all the bugs get in. Useless if this happens.

shall call and get it done tomorrow again i was surprised when the dentist patched me up didnt remove the rest of the former filling and just bunged it up

Ha my nhs root treatment would be 45 mins start to finish, nearly always single visit!

Each to their own, but as the others said decent seal needed - no point having multiple visits if the filling is leaking all the time!

I had a similar thing with NHS temporary fillings. Got infected. Still put crown on. Massively uneven joint line but that wasn't the main problem. I kept saying it feels odd/hot/tight - everytime I go back complaining she just drills more off the crown to make bite fit again (tooth rising up on puss pocket), eventually takes xray and sees infected, so drills through crown, cleans out and puts a filling in the crown, few weeks later half outer covering breaks initiating from drilled hole, now miraculously over 12 months so I have to pay again if I want it replaced. Tooth is clearly still infected and now unsightly as well. Just waiting for it to fall out now to be done with it. This was a healthy tooth that broke on a cherry stone BTW, not some decayed stump. Ah the NHS, it's great.

Simple, go somewhere else. Unfortunately the level of quality varies in the NHS (as it does PVTly), but not all dentists in the NHS are bad!!

I was persuaded to have private root canal job by a money grabbing dentist and that went tits up at a cost of £520 and a lost tooth. It's not NHS it is the motco's Law of Universal Incompetence.

I know, just hard to find a good one. I only went NHS as my private bloke retired and the lady that bought the practice was awful.
